Default First time at the drag strip, pretty disappointed...

There was a Test and Tune event at Pacific Raceways (Auburn, WA) today and a few buddies and I headed out. I only got 4 runs in and none of them were what I was hoping for...

Run #1:

60: 2.733
1/8: 10.298
1/4: 15.627 @ 92.36 mph

Run #2:

60: 2.528
1/8: 10.091
1/4: 15.431 @ 92.80

Run #3:

60: 2.885
1/8: 10.621
1/4: 16.013 @ 92.08

Run #4:

60: 2.594
1/8: 10.169
1/4: 15.561 @ 92.96

Anyone noticing a trend here? I think my 60's + launch are a problem. My tires are pretty much dead, so I couldn't get a launch down. I tried dumping the clutch at 4000, and feathering the clutch at 3000 and 4000, etc. With the trap speeds I was getting, I'm not sure what I should be hitting... any input?

My car: 1998 Integra GS-R, Toda A cams, AEM CAI, Tanabe Racing Medallion, full interior, Advan A460's @ 32 psi (that were bald) on GS-R blades.

-Oh yeah, runs #2 and #3 were on a chipped OBDI p72 with a 8400 redline and simulated ITR fuel map. #1 and #4 were one a stock OBDII p72. Dyno tuning with a Hondata hopefully by the end of summer...

What makes no sense to me is that your trap speeds were the same on a 2.8 60ft

as they were on a run with a 2.5 60 foot. The best example would be the

15.431 @ 92.80 (2.5 60)

and

16.013 @ 92.08 (2.8 60)

In order for anyone to really help a lot of info is needed........tire size, suspension,

clutch, etc. I think your best advice would be to get new tires and experiment, try

new things (tire psi, launch points, shift points, stiffer springs, lighter rims....)

My reaction times? Err... those don't matter, and I didn't even post them.

PS - I was on a stock clutch, generic coilover springs ( ), stock tire size (195/55 I think?).

I had my 60k tune-up a few days before the event, everything seems to be running nicely minus a strange idle problem that I think is because of my IACV.

I think for the next trip, I'd like to have new tires, and a lot more chances to race. Every time I lined up I was experimenting with different launch styles... couldn't get one down. I was pissed that I woke up at 6am to do this, and got four runs in between then and 5pm.

Tires, or should I say traction, will make all the diffrence in the world. So will tuning. Also it's your first time at the track.

Don't you think that maybe you should have gone to the track a few times before adding those mods?

Ya man. Mods dont mean **** unless you get it tuned. Also, I think your tires, clutch, and suspension have alot to do with it as well. I have a friend with I/E and traction bars. Hes got azenis and a better clutch. Its lowered a bit too. He runs low 14's consistently. (he has a GSR also.)

thats pretty much the way i did on my first trip to the track...mine were worse (best time was a 16.00 )...i have intake/type r cams/exhaust on my gsr...but like you my tires were just spinning through 1st and 2nd gear... haha i suck at drag racing...anyway, tuning the car with the hondata will definitely improve your times, so don't give up!

You guys have a really good point on the tuning. Honestly, my car feels like a stock GS-R with a fucked up power band (I can honestly feel a strong torque drop when VTEC engages). I figured I'd see at least some gains though. I can't wait to get everything in line... dyno tuning, camber kit, and some good street tires. $$$ though...

Your 60' are the reason why you're getting such bad times.
Remember, tenth off your 60' = two tenths off your 1/4 time.

Can't say much since you had bad tires, and that would without question cause the bad 60' times. Go back with better tires and get the 60' down.

Good luck.

I wish I could give you a good report on them, but as mentioned, the tires made the trip almost totally bunk. At least it was educational. If it helps, I bought the cams off of a friend of mine, and he G-Teched a 13.6 (which would be of course slower in real-time) with these in his ITR. Other mods on his car were an AEM CAI and 2.5 Piping starting with the DC JDM 4-1 header and no tuning. He also had good tires

Did you wanna pay for every trip? Pacific Raceways is 1.2 hours away from my house and Test and Tune track days are $25.

Most poeple first trip to the track is disapointing, its completely different than the street. As far as your times, well it's obvious its your rubber and your launch. Also what other mods do you have to go with those Cams? You cant just drop in cams with an Intake and Exhuast and expect the car to be fast. As far as mph well your right on track for what most stock-I/h/e bolt on gsr's trap, so you need to complete the setup, get tuned and then the power will be there.

Dude, tires will make or brake your 1/4 mile time. You can have all the mods you want, but if you dont have any traction, it doesnt mean anything (ask any mustang owner this). Go and get your self some Falken Azenis, and drop the tire pressure to 25-30 when you are ready to run. practice shifting a little, and with your mods you should be around 14.9 plus or minus a few tenths

I've only got Intake and Exhaust. I wasn't expecting anything too crazy, consistent low 15's and I wouldn't be complaining . Guess I just need to get a few things together before I can see satisfysing results.

Thanks for all the input everyone
