t-25 turbo internals for greddy ??
I currently have a Greddy turbo kit on my 95 gsr and have been looking to toss that internal gate --
I have been told that Greddy manifold can bolt up to a T25 turbo housing. If i were to do this- what is the largest size internals i can cram into that turbo and still be effiecient-
I would like to be able to hit 20-22psi and make about 325-350 whp
I dont know if the t25 can do this or not--- im sure that a t3/t4 could.
but i cant afford to get a whole new manifold, trurbo and down pipe

because
1) i have a 18G -- already bigger than the 14b
2) looking to go with an external ate because that is whats holding me back now-- that internal crap flux too much. cant hold a steady 17psi for my life... always falls off.

Hey man, I know all about your frustration with the greddy turbo not holding boost at those levels....But I think the weak link is the wastegate actuator itself in these kits...There are many other cars (neon, evo, wrx, etc.,etc..) that hold higher boost levels fine with internal gates...The only problem is aftermarket companies make beefier actuators for those vehicles, and I have yet to find an upgraded one for the greddy 18g..
i dont think its the actuator itself because ive swapped that for better ones.. i think its the wastegate location on this turbo at this point-- ive even gone to a dual port actuator....
What kind of boost controller are you using? The apexi avcr can probaly dial out the topend boost from dropping off. I would recommend ditching the 18g and upgrading to a bigger turbo or trying different boost controllers.

Nothing, compared to you
.
but I'm already tired of this internal wastegate BS and ready to move on pretty soon. 18g's have nice mid range and a quick spool up time but I need more
.
My acvr holds boost pretty good, I just had to play with the duty cycles through the rpms to make it hold steady but it still sucks imho.

Are you getting boost spikes, creep, or is boost sort of "random"?
edit: Might be a longshot but... the problem may have more to do with the design of the downpipe than the actuator or location of the wastegate. I can't remember exactly, but I seem to recall that this turbo is designed so that it's difficult to "split" the turbine and wastegate openings (but not impossible). Mitsu T25's do split them though, so it's possible to design a downpipe with an independant wastegate dump.

not having spikes or creeps just cant hold the boost where i want it-- i want high boost levels but i keep falling into the 8's
I too am tired of this internal gate crap --im saving my money starting now and im gonna get a new head, manifold, t3/t04e with tial 38mm and a full 3" DP tht should keep things where i want them
I DO use a AVC-R EBC and still cant get it to hold boost.
here is the WG you can see--- no divider, th dp bolts right up to this and both run down --
im thinking that the exhaust gases are PULLING on the gate to hold it open rather than pushing it open-- I mean tht the gases in the DP cause enough backpressure to hold the gate open along with normal pressures.

Yep, that looks like I remembered it. Poor design IMO...
I wouldn't be surprised if your theory is correct. I don't know why they designed the opening like that.
But dropping all the way to 8 psi??? I can see dropping boost from say 17 - 15 psi, but all the way down to 8 psi is *extreme*. I don't think that much fluctuation will occur as a result of this design. But I dunno for sure... :scratches head:

I'm glad your asking these questions, because i'm trying to take all this in as well, cuz my Greddy kit on my GSR does the same frickin thing. mine will also spike when I turn it up a good amount though.. But like you said it doesnt hold the boost, and it will go all the way down to eight. sometime it will just go to 9, the most boost ive ran though is only like 12, and thats the spike boost.. I only get consistant constant boost at 8lbs...
