Default just recharged a/c , now when i turn on my ac the idle surges

ok guys this i just put 1 can of r134a in my 2000 honda civic ex and that went in good. but then the idle would drop for a second and come back up again.

my dad said something like the ac clutch was kicking in.

you can see this little thing by the ac pulley kick in and it stops thats when the idle drops but then the little thing kicks again and the idle goes back to normal.

this is not your normal idle surge because this only happens with the ac on and it never has happen until today after i put the can of r134a in.

sorry if this is confusing but i despearately need some help

ok first of all did you do an overcharge? if so then your pressures will be to high and would cause this problem go and find out what the pressures are on the low and high side then post back

If your pressures are too high then the compressor will be working overtime and bogging your system down.

Well what kind of CAN did you use? one with a sealer in it?

no it didn't have a sealer

so can too much pressure be causing the idle drop when i hear the click of that thing by the ac pulley?

Idle drop from the click is Normal.. your compressor is working. but your saying it surges .. so it drops to what point?

also did your AC work before this?

so why did you put more r134A in?

well bleed some off just stick a screwdriver in the schrader valve on the high side line.. which is the one with the bigger cap on it. Now it is illegal for me to tell you this given my licence so pretend you didnt take my advice

It does this because your sensing blub in the evaporator is telling the ECU that its going to freeze over so shut off the compressor.

the clicking is Normal.. just the bogging is what I was concerned about.. go and drive it for a few min then check.. if it wants to die then you still have a problem other then that.. its normal for it to go on and off

get some gauge and check out the pressure on the system. you could have air in the system or a bad expansion valve.

selling those DIY kits is the best thing the AC compnaies ever did to bring business to their shops. Dipshits just dumping in entire cans is awesome. Overcharging a system is the coolest thing to do. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Unless you have the right tool don't **** with your AC system. 250+ psi isn't something for n00bs to be playing with. I've been doing this for some time now, and I still hate taking the high side gauge off a system. Anyway, take it to a REAL ac shop and let them hook some gauges up and find out what's wrong. More than likely you blindly dumbed in a whole pound of refrigerant. It's probably overcharged now and you're going to blow some seals out if you keep running it. Which means you'll have to take your car to an AC shop anyway to get the air sucked out and recharged PROPERLY after your compressor and possibly your condensor self destructs. On m,onday go to a shop and have them hook you up.

yeah i was dumb for touching that **** -no doubt about that

but i keep on releasing freon a little at a time and it is starting to click less and less

should i just keep releasing some slowly until in really doesn't click too much??

how often should it be clicking?

you're releasing something into the atmosphere that's not supposed to be. You know that's a $25,000 fine if you get busted, right? There's a reason I went through a certification course to be able to work on this stuff. Take it to a shop and have them check it out and have them get the proper charge for you. Don't turn the system on in the mean time. I'm serious, you can literally blow holes into your condenser tubing and **** up the valves in your copressor running an overcharged system.

actually that law is only meant to be applied to AC shops that do recharges all the time...ive never once heard of someone privatly collecting the old refrig...or getting charged for releasing it

Well its just like jaywalking how often do you see a person from the EPA around looking for people that release refergerant into the air?

and if you have a licence as I do then you can get fined personally. thats why I told him earlier that I didnt recommend it and mentioned it

i hate to just chime in with a question like i'm about to do, but since i dont want to take up space with a new topic, here we go.

about 2 or 3 months ago, i had my AC compressor replaced by honda because it somehow went bad (absolutely horrid grinding noise when the AC was turned on), i get the car back from honda, the ac works fine, then winter comes. now that it's starting to get warmer, i've noticed that the AC will not blow any cold air when the engine is at idle (ie, not moving/above 1300rpm). any ideas as to why this is? or is this just normal?
