H22/H23 transmissions. Which one is better?
I'm wondering if they're interchangeable on either engine. I'm buying a prelude SI next month and one of the gears is bad. If I can put an H22 transmission on it would it be worth it? How different are the gear ratios? Which would be better to have? Thanks for checking this out,
Dave
mods really need to make a black and blue link that is just as big as honda-tech at the top and make it say SEARCH. I just wrote these gear ratios here like 2 weeks ago.
Cool nickname btw, I love that anime.

lol... sorry for the inconvenience. if it aggravates you that i asked the question then why bother posting? i'm not asking to those who are annoyed by something like this, just someone that is willing to help out. a link to your write-up would have been a great reply. it was a great anime btw, a lil slow but still loved the concept. anyways, sorry not tryin to tear into you or anybody in particular. just hate it when "newer" people get flamed when the answer would be easy for someone with more experience
h22 is you want fast acceleration and h23 if you want a lil better gas mileage and still good acceleration. or you could even put on an f22/f23 tranny if you really wanted for longer gearing and way better gas mileage. which isnt really a prelude type of idea but hey some people like their high gas mileage
i want the car to shove but not kill me on gas haha. it's already expensive enough, no sense in making things worst. that's for the posts. a friend of mine told me the difference last night so i understand a lot better, problem now is finding one

no point to do a half-*** job, get the h22 trans with the h22 engine, if you really want to save gas, swap in a sohc F and call it a day.
F series tranny > h23 for boost
ask me why

Ok. why is the f series tranny better than the H23 for boost? which will end up being faster 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile

I do believe the point at which iam7head was trying to address is that the F series has a longer gear ratio, which will allow you to stay in boost longer.
However, I'd rather have quicker acceleration (due to the short gear ratios) of the h series trannies. No matter how you slice it, I BELIEVE (get that, believe, not experience) accelerating faster is the ultimate goal of all of us on here. Because as long as it would hook up, the shorter gear ratios would be better.

longer gears allow you to stay in boost longer. if you have to keep shifting you'll lose boost every time you shift and have to spool your turbo back up. thats why people prefer longer gears over shorter gears in a turbo car.
hoooooooooow much are you looking to get for the f tranny? my accord has a grind in third cause the synchro is bad
but i'm hoping to just sell the car as it is hehe. no sense in puting more work into it when i won't be driving it for much longer. if it doesn't sell though I WILL want a new tranny
