It would depend on which car and engine you have.

It all depends on how much you speed and drive aggressivly.

You can get a 4.9 Final drive in a ITR transmission and still get great gas milage as long as you drive the speed limit.

It depends what motor man. Honestly, I have an b18b motor with the stock LS tranny and it is great for all types of driving, I would not use anything else in MY car.

the tranny that matches the engine stock is the best one.

If you want the best of both worlds, then get a B16A or Integra Type R tranny and throw in an LS 5th gear.

This way you'd have a nice close-ratio 1-4 and a tall 5th gear for highway use.

BTW:

I have gotten 350 miles to a tank of gas in my fiancee's 1992 Si hatchback with a B16A2 swap and stock S4C 99-00 Si tranny while averaging 85mph on a road trip from Atlanta to Mobile, Alabama.

That's 29.4mpg - 350 miles divided by 11.9 gallon tank.

So much for poor gas mileage with the B16A/ITR tranny 5th gear.

best tranny for daily driving is the LS tranny. has long gears, which will rev really low on highway

b16 tranny w/ ls 5th gear...but thats too much of a hassle.

just get a b16 and call it a day. not good for gas...but it'll sure get you around quicker.

I have a del sol VTEC, which has a b16a3 in it, and I drive on the highway everyday. When I'm in 5th gear running about 80 MPH I'm at 4500 RPM's, and redline is 8200 RPM's. Over all with a mix between highway and in town driving I still get about 28 MPG. (And I drive a lot faster than 80 MPH everyday.)

i got a jdm sir II b16, with gsr tranny. i recently got the new longblock and new clutch put in, so i had to break in the clutch. driving 65 at the max on the freeway yielded me 39 miles per gallon. now that im done with the break in period, i go abour 80+, i still get about 33+ mpg!!
