While where on the subject does anyone know what to use to take off a stripped nut. One of the nuts on my oil line is stripped to hell and i cant get a socket over it because of the line itself. I need some kind of wrench to get in there. Thanks.

thats a five point nut isnt it? Just use a 4 point wrench. Might get a little better grip on it. Also, soak it with PB blaster, just to help aid in making it easier to get off since you already have a chore at hand.

The best bet for a stripped bolt is to just drill it out, if you dont have the proper tool to remove the stripped bolt. Drill it completely, then re-thread the hole.

Drilling is what i would have done. Luckily vice grips took it out for me.

take a dy-grinder...grind a slit in the top of the bolt...then get a heavy duty flat head and stick it in the slit and spray some WD-40 and un-screw that bitch...

ive done this before on smaller bolts and it has work fine...youll wanna replace the bolt once its out obviously...but im not sure if will work on a bolt that large...

goodluck

That's not a bad idea for small bolts, the only thing is I'm not sure if you could get enough torque on a screw driver to remove larger ones.

yup!! thats what we had to do on my swap.. made a deep slit in the bolt and use a thick screw driver to take it out. if you cant get enough torque from the screwdriver alone, then put a vice grip or pliers on it

those bolts extractors work well, just hammer them on and turn.

Yeah, I have a set of craftsman bolt extractors, They work very well. I recommend getting a set of those and a set of screw extractors, and just keep them handy, you never know when you need them.

what about removing stripped 12pt. flywheel bolts, with the motor in the car? do the bolt extractors work with a 12pt. bolt?
