Default Brake Job Help

so i'm changing my rotors and pads today and i ran into a problem. i removed the caliper and caliper bracket as well as the small phillips screws that hold the rotor to the hub, but i can't get the rotor off the hub. has anyone had this problem before? all the how-to i read about changing rotors always made it sound like they slide right off. am i missing something here?

The screw is a pain, what I did was drill the head of the screaw off, then to rotor came of and I was able to get the rest of the screw out with vise grips, you do not need the screw so I left it out.

you can also drill them out to a certain point.
youre changing the rotors so it doesnt matter if they get a little destroyed in the process. Just use a pair of vice grips to remove the rest of the screw if they get stuck in the hub (but that probably wont happen)

i dont see the point of that if you can get them out with an impact screw driver. i guess if you cant get them out with it then break out the drill, but.... why make it harder then you have to

not everyone owns an impact driver
(plus, Ive broken bits trying to get the screws out...then HAVE to drill them out in order to buy a replacement bit later)

impact screwdriver kits are like 10 bucks, its cheaper than breaking bits and buying new ones.

yes, an impact screw driver is the best to remove rotor screws. When I read the post I understood that he had the screw off already. You need to pound the rotor off with a small/medium sledge hammer.

Sounds like he's got the screws out, but it's still stuck... Yeah, I've had that problem on a few cars I've worked on. The rotor is 'rust welded' to the hub.

Get yourself a 4lb sledge, and start banging away. It'll come off eventually, and lube the hub and rotor contact surfaces withe bearing grease when you re-assemble to prevent from happening again.

yeah, i already got the screws off. the impact screwdriver was money.
so i just have to pound on the thing to get it off? i guess i have to take the dust shield off, that thing is really in the way.

mine were kinda stuck too when i changed them. what i did was got my rubber mallet and just hit the rotor from the inside. it should pop off pretty easy shouldnt take much force at all. just hit it from the inside out

Actually, I've always banged from the front. You just need to break them loose, so it doesn't matter which side you do it from. Just do it in a pattern, back and forth 6:00, 12:00 a few times, then 3:00, 9:00. You may have some luck spraying the ol' PB blaster around where the parts mate up.

it will come off of you hit it enough. you said your going to replace it anyways so dont baby it. make sure you hit it at an angle that WONT mess up your wheel studs. i like to just put the hammer behind the rotor and pull. seems to work best for me.
