What type of gas does the RSX use?
i was reading somewhere and it said that the DC5 uses premium...is that true? or can u go ahead and use 87? Does the type of fuel you use affect performance? I'm im the market for the DC5 and your help will be very much appreciated..thank you.
high compression engines (like the type-S) NEED higher octane fuel... if you lower the octane, the compression can cause premature detonation, which can be bad... DO NOT put in lower quality fuel...Now why would you want to treat a great car like that anyway...
basically putting in lower than suggested octane makes your engine sluggish and the ecu overcompensates for the lower octane... plus always a chance for detonation.

The ECU also has 'adaptations' that basically learn what octane you are using and shifts the spark curve down (retards timing) when you use lower AKI (Anti Knock Index - the number on the pump - casually known as 'The Octane Number') gasoline. Retarding the timing reduces the power output of the engine and its overall efficiency. It you use premium fuel, the ECU will advance the timing which will cause it to make more power and get better gas mileage. So in a modern car it does not make sense to use the lower AKI fuel because the benefit of the gas being cheaper is offset by the decrease in gas mileage, plus when you use premium the engine will make more power. Just remember your fuel mileage is directly proportional to how hard you push the gas pedal. I get about 25mpg in my Civic.
I put a full tank of 87 in my 2002 Civic Si as an experiment and could feel a drastic drop in power especially at lower RPM's where the engine is more likely to detonate. I didn't check fuel mileage though.
