need some help here
i have a '92 accord lx.....when it first starts up it idles fine....but after like 10sec of idling the rpms start goin crazy.....they they jump from like 500 to 4000 the needle keeps goin up and down....and im not touchin the gas....what is the problem and how do i fix it? any input is appreciated!
First thing I would do is check your radiator fluid. Then if that is full and the problem persists, clean/replace your IACV (intake air control valve) its behind the fuel rail on the driver side. If its not that, possible temperature sensor.
Try those things and let us know if they worked/didn't work.

Make sure there is no air pockets in your radiator. To check that, have a premixed bottle of coolant/antifreeze on hand. Remove your radiator cap, start your car, air should bubble out of the spout. Pour in some fluid until the fluid level remains consistantly at the top without spurting out air. That should remove any air pockets. Then Re-cap. If thats doesn't do it, check your intake manifold. Make sure all your skinny black vacuum lines are connected. If you see an exposed nipple, that might be the problem. Good luck
thankyou i cleaned the iacv....worked!! there was a dude in the prelude thread with the same problem so i passed along the same suggestions.....thanks a bunch....made the new guy feel welcome here
