Default help with power wire

hey all

i just got a 98 accord coupe and have every thing for my system ready to go in but i cant figure out how to run the power wire... i don't want to run it along side the door and cant get it through any openings in the fire wall... im thinking about running it under the car to the back seats and in or into the trunk through the rubber stopper under my spare tire.... any one have any other ideas? any info would help...

Just curious why you don't want to run it on the side?

Why don't you run it down the middle of the car on the inside, underneath the armrest console. Personally I like running it along side the door and having the rca's running down the middle. Makes the most sense to me, but do whatever you want to do.

do NOOTTTTT run it under the car lol, its gonna get all warped from weathering....If youre not gonna drill into the firewall, run it through the car and into the door. You will be wasting money if you run it under the car...Theres gotta be an opening somewhere in the 98 coupe, theres mad space in those engines...I have a prelude and theres near to no room to place the wire so i put it through the door...

I guess you like being different on your install... if you dont want to run it on the side,, try running the wire on the roof.. ive never seen it done and theres a first for everything...

Get a drill and make a hole big enough for the power wire. The firewall is the easiet and most hassle free way to install the power wire. I wouldnt run it under the car unless you can protect it very well and even then it is kinda lame.....

shouldnt the opening for the hanress to ECU in the firewall be big enough to get the power wire through. I have never seen the engine bay of a 98 Accord so it is just a thought......

theres a reason the power wire is run through the side paneling.. your smartest and safest bet would be to drill the hole through the firewall provided that there is no gromet in there. running it outside could cause serious problems if the wire were to ever be exposed. just remember to keep your rca run down the opposite side for best sound quality.

hey sorry maybe i didn't make it clear.. it wasn't that i didn't want to run it up the side, thats where i ran my RCA and remote wire its that i didn't want to open my door and see the wire going along from my engine compartment into the inside of my car.... i couldn't figure out how to get it through the firewall (without making a new hole)... i bought some all weather wrapping (10 feet) from radio shack and i covered my power wire in it... i ran it down my firewall to the front right wheel well and ran it through my side skirt down to my back wheel well and then out and on top of the cage that looks like it is protecting my suspension or some thing that made it easy to go over the exhaust and then i went above the sway bar (or what ever suspension bar goes across the back... not too thick.. pretty sure it was sway bar) and i poked a whole in the rubber stopper under my spar tire and used that to slide my wire through... it looks clean and it took maybe 45 min to wrap the wire run it get my amp and subs in make new speaker wire hook every thing up run the RCA's and remote and put the double to single din conversion and CD player maybe one day next week the conversion kit is coming out and PS 2 and a TV are going in... not too sure yet... if you got any questions about where i ran the wire im on spring break so one day during the week i can get some pics if any of u guys are interested

oh and about the whole fire wall thing... there was a definate opening but when i was looking inside the car to get to the hole it was like there's a little "ceiling" above the drivers side feet which was blocking me from finding the opening

definitely run it through that hole! lol, i was about to tell you about that one, it should go straight to the wiring harness for the engine, run it through that and down the inside side panels and you're all set, good luck

man, it seems like you went through a whole lot of trouble for nothing, all you had to do was run it through the fire wall. it would've been stealthier and you would've used less wire. oh well, to each his own.

are you guys idiots??? DO NOT run it in through your door jam. buy doing50-there and also the wire being exposed to daily driving conditions can become to wear out... the actualy insulation will wear out.. Either use an existing gromet or drill your own hold in the firewall, run it under your carpet into the trunk. that is the only way to properly do it. if you cant manage to do that take it to a shop where professionals will do it... it should only cost about 50-70 bucks depending on where you go if you already have the amp installation kit.

dont expect to be bumping for too long. Leaving the power wire exposed like that will ruin it.

in 5th gen prelude's there is an opening above the passenger's seat behind that plastic peice, you wont be able to see it, but it is there. just get a coat hanger and poke around back there and once you get into the engine bay, tape the power wire to the end of the coat hanger and pull it thru.

i wrapped the wire in an all weather plastic....... and even if the plastic melts away and then the wire... it would take so much time i wouldn't care i'll just re run the wire again any way.....

i thought you ran it outside because you couldn't get it through the firewall, but now that you have it going through the firewall there's no need to run it outside the car. At least that's what I got from the posts. If you ran it through the firewall and down the side panelling inside the car you won't have to worry about the wire weathering down.. maybe i'm wrong but all the bickering in this thread seems unnecessary. glad to hear the system's running at least
