Default Swirls in paint right out of body shop?

I got my car from the body shop yesterday ..

There's swirls and noticeable light scratches, should I be p!ssed ?

When I saw my car last saturday it looked mint .. the paint was new and glossy, had excellent depth ..

There were bumps on it, however, and they said come back in a month and they'd buff it and take those off the surface .. "noogies" I call em ..

So I picked up my car last night and there was a lot of compound residue every where ... odd buff marks on the front bumper where it angles to where the H used to be .. as well there were a couple 2" long light scratches on the hood right in the middle and there's noticeable swirls all over .. it doesnt look like new paint to me, it looks liked a used car ...

Should I give it a good wash, wait a month and wax it to see what happens.. or should I be pissed and demand they use compound or another PERMENANT (not like NXT or other temporary swirl filler) to make the paint actually look new .. ?

Zoomed out pic click here

I've never had a car painted so would like some feedback before I harp on the shop ...

they wet sanded and buff ur car, they took off a layer of clear coat. its normal, it was not buff correctly. i do it everynow in then its just being lazy, take it back to them and ask them this " so when are you guys finishing buffing the car" if they try to mess with u say well its cool dont worry ill just run by the insurance companys office and let them check it out theyll get back to you..

but be carful they can take off to much clean and that will greatly limit ur UV protection for the base coat. the scratches are from wet sanding and getting dirt under the wet sand paperm those will be difficult to get out. the swirls are from holding the buffer on the edge sounlds like they was in a hurry and really did not want to do ur car, most likely they told u to come back because they was hopeing u would not, its a trick ive seen some shops do, they will get ur money and insurance money and not have to do as much labor, there bottom line is getting it out the door at alot of shops..

when u came back the painter of helper really did not want anything to do with the car becasue they got paid for this one along time ageo and they got work in the shop that pays and urs does not, so they hurry urs to get to the stuff that pays. best thing to do is ream them out pick out every little flaw type them up a list of what u like to get fixed because then they will do what ever it takes to get rid of u

The exact same thing just happened to my friend. Go in there and give them hell. They will have to make it right.

Give it a good wash, followed by claybar, cleaner wax, then wax, it the scratches are still there take it back.

I don't know about that. He paid good money to have THEM do that for him...why would he want to do basically the same thing with the claybar?

I say go back and demand they "finish" your finish. (pun intended)

I agree ... I think specalk misunderstood ..

I went to the shop last sat. to check up, it looked in credible .. the one guy said in a month we'll come back and buff it ..

so when I picked up the car yesterday I said so "Jay" mentioned I should come back in a month to have the bumps buffed off and he's like oh i already did that today, you can see the bits of compound left .. im like oh .. pretty suprised because I heard from numerous sources you need to let the paint fully cure before hitting it with a wheel.

I dont want to have to wax the car to get rid of the swirls, it sort of defeats having new paint. nonetheless, if its new paint it should look new ... not similar to before when it was red and waxed. 2 weeks when the wax dries up or a couple of washes and im back to swirls ..

what im nervous about is if these guys did the buffing to take out the swirls .. are the capable of buffing to remove them professionaly ?? I've seen this guys other work and it came out way more professional finish than whats on my car .. im miffed. grr.

ive been painting cars for 8 years and ur not suppost to wet sand and or buff or wax ur car for 90 days but a painter that knows what there doing is ok with doing it. paints still cureing and easy to burn threw.

in fact ive wet sanded and buff a car 5 hrs after i painted it,

i would make sure he gets all sanding scratches out and swirls and the compound off, a decent quality shop would not give it back to u with compound on it. its ur car mines in mint condition so i donot really care, right now im doing a color change on my buddys 240 and im putting 3 coats of clean because im going to flat sand it and there will not be a single bit of orange peel or swirls or scratchs.

its all about quality and how much a *** hole ur planning on being because the nicer of a guy that will roll over and take it home with it looking like **** then there going to walk all over u.

SpecalK is right Yo, you need to give em hell, write down every imperfection and point them out to the shop as Specalk previously mentioned,
You need to raise the issue to the shop NOW! If you leave it they'll pass the blame back to you when you take it further.

Hope you get it sorted soon, I know how much you were looking forward to it being finished.

Thanks for the support guys .. i picked up a california duster (because i park in an alley ) I can really see all the swirls in daylight, but at night in a streetlamp its really not cool .. I found a hair half burried in my clear coat on the bumper and a couple bubbles...

on the rear quarters its a bit of orange peel also .. so im quite a bit preturbed .. the other cars this guy has sprayed that i looked at in the front room of the shop are mint .. i really dunno wtf is up ..

I'll keep y'all posted and have pics of the swirls later today ...

Ok .. there's a hair beneath the clear on the bumper .. very noticeable .. looks like it landed between coats .. (small but created bad finish) couple of bubbles ... but otherwise its all good, just these damn swirls .. and scratches .. really bad ones on the fender pass side, heres the pic :

add .orig.jpg to blow it up .. just below the line of the roof on the house (in the reflection) those are scratches .. they go all along the fender .

Take it back and tell them you're not satisfied with the work.

I think im owned ... i've had a couple really good body guys look at the car.. there's no undercoating in the panels where rust is fixed, you can feel the overlap where the 2 metal came together and its definately a moisture trapper meaning more rust in the immediate future ...

the scratches above i'm told are from the extension cord from the buffer they used ..

I'll find out how much clear they use first time I polish the car .. if any blue paint comes off im tellin them to re-spray with a double clear

I'd take it back now. You should never pick up a car that is dirty or does not have compound on it.

They longer you wait, the more excuses they could make. That stuff is plain bs.
