Car: 1999 Hondia Civic Couple (ek-ish)
History:
I've done a swap, but lately, I noticed a loud thunk as I gas it in first through third gears. I checked under the hood and it's my power steering pump hitting my hood. I thought this was strange because I've been driving it for the better part of a month without any problems like this. I tried to tighten all the mounts, but they are all torqued perfectly. So then I check to make sure the power steering pump is tightened properly as well, and it is torqued perfectly.
I have a buddy pull up my e-brake and give the car gas and I notice the drivers side of the motor is jumping literally, 2-3 inches vertically when he mashes on the gas. NOT GOOD.
So I look at the mount and I notice a little piece of rubber that has broken off. Ah ha! What I'm wondering is if I can replace just that rubber bushing or do I have to replace the entire mount? I've found places online that sell the prothane and energy suspension kits, but none of them show pictures of what their motor mount inserts look like.
Question:
I know I can just replace the whole thing from HCP, w/ their polyurethane replace mount, but that thing is like $130 that I don't really have, nor do I want to spend taht much on replacing a little ******* piece of rubber. Anyone happen to have any pics of the inserts from either of these companies or do you have any better ideas for me, not including spending $130 on the new mount.

If the actual rubber piece in the mount broke, you need to get a new mount. I'd recommend getting a new rear (i'm assuming) mount and some energy suspension inserts.
if its your driver side mount, just get the inserts. Its not worth buying a new mount from Honda because you'll get the ENTIRE thing, not just the rubber. What motor do you have in the car now?
and I recommend Prothane inserts...not too expensive at all.

Not rear. Drivers side, that's why the drivers side jumps up and down. I'm looking at the energysuspension website and they say their motor mount inserts sit around the original OEM rubber and basically fix torn mounts.
Anyone use these in this fashion?

Yes, I just got off the phone with lightningmotorsports and the guy said he's not sure that the Prothane inserts will work for me. He said he's going to take some snap shots and put them up on the web for me to look at to see if they are what I need.
It's an H22a, by the way.

I wouldn't drive around a car with a broken mount. But yes I guess you could use the energy suspension mount inserts. I have the rear one on my car and it basically fills in the holes in the mount with polyurethane.

well, I know only from my D-series that on the driver's side, the rubber insert has to be pressed out to put the urethane ones in. I'm not sure if thats the case with the H22 mount. If it is, just order the inserts and you should be all set. On the D, at least, the drivers side is the only one that doesn't use any OEM rubber, the rest just have inserts that go on top of the OEM rubber in the mount already.

The drivers side mount is the stock mount. The bracket that attaches to it is the custom piece. I think I'm going to order the Prothane kit just to see what it is. After all, it's only $8 plus shipping.

i think thats your best bet. You'll have to have the rubber insert (has a metal ring around it) hydraulically pressed out. Once its out, just pop in the Prothane inserts (will be 2 red outer and 1 black middle insert) and bolt back on.

Are you sure about that? I just got off the phone with lightningmotorsports and he said it's only a two piece kit, just the red pieces.

the mount insert for the driver's side on my D-series from 95 was actually 5 pieces. I don't know if the 6th gen is different, but I had two red outer inserts, two black inner inserts (only use one of them, either race or street), and the metal tube that goes through the middle.
I had a broken lower Driver Side mount when I swapped a B20B in my EK. I just installed a ES poly insert in the broken mount. Works just fine. I wouldn't do it on the back mount, tranny mount, and the upper driverside mount because those are bigger and hold most of the torque. The only downside to getting poly inserts is the vibration and chattering you will experience when idling with the poly inserts. Other then I that its great.
the driver side insert only comes with the 2 red pieces, its not like the eg mount. There is nothing that needs to get pressed in, just pull the top piece of the mount off, and slide the inserts in. done..
The driver's side liquid-filled mount on the EK is a wear item. They wear out fairly quick.
If it were me, I would buy a replacement mount from Hasport. If you want to go a cheaper route then the inserts are ok. A new stock mount would help retain your ride quality (minimize vibration) but you should be prepared to replace it on a regular basis.

I found a site but sadly I lost it. They used 3M window paste to fill in the mount and it worked better then new. I'm planning on doing this to my upper mounts.

I hate to do it, but it looks like I'll be springing for the extra $130 for the HCP mount.
