it depends what you want.
short gears, fast acceleration, lower top speed,cost, high highway rpms= short geared vtec tranny
long gears, slower acceleration, higher top speed, free(you have one already, right?), better highway cruising rpms, = ls tranny

ITR tranny w/LS 5th = 
i drove a turbo'd ITR with that tranny setup and it sucked *** big time. shifting from 4th to 5th = dramatic decrease in acceleration, it felt like someone dropped a 500lbs girl in the back seat

Depends on what you plan on doing next to the car. Are you just gonna leave it at that and stay all motor or if there are any plans for F/I in the long run?

i had a gsr tranny in my ls and i was at 4k rpms on the freeway, gas becomes a problem. ive heard w/ a b16 tranny in this set up would be almost in vtec at 5k rpms, or around there somewhere. talk about gas guzzler
