Making my own rollcage... have you done it before?
if i make my own 4 or 6 point rollcage, will it be able to pass inspection? I'm lookin to save a buck and i have a 220 mig welder, so can anyone give me some opinions on this. thanks
What inspection are you trying to pass?
Unless you really know what you are doing....... or have someone there that does, I would not do it. You may need that cage to save your life.

A 220 Mig welder will have more than sufficient power to weld the .120 wall tubing needed. (Assuming the car is a Civic or 'teg) How are you as a welder? Be honest with yourself. As stated above, your life can depend on it. Do you have a tubing bender? I am talking about one designed for this type of work. A 'regular' bender will end up crimping the tubes. Do you have a tubing notcher? It takes a lot of time & practice to get nice tight fit ups. This is definitely an instance where you won't want to do any 'filling in' with the welds (not that you should ever be if you have any pride in your work).
A better thing to do is to offer to help an experience cage builder. You might not save any money, but you will gain a wealth of experience.

it takes more than just a welder to be able to build a rollbar/cage ya know.
you'll need to make bends as well as notch pipe. do you have the equipment to do that? how much experience welding do you have? the strength and quality of those welds is what keeps you alive.
i watched a man die in a racing incident this weekend, cages are not something to fug around with. have a professional do it. trying to save a few bucks, how much is your life worth to you?

I have a friend who builds rally car cages help me , or i helped him in building my cage in other words . Its definately not a "bend it and weld it" type of thing. I would get help or buy it.

This is the wrong thing to say when talking about a safety item.

Every buck saved on safety is one hundred bucks extra spent at the hospital after a crash!
You like supporting your local hospital right? Sweet, you're all set.

Pass whose inspection? That matters.
Go buy/get the rulebook for whatever sanctioning body you want to run with and read it. Then, read it again. Then start to plan your cage. Then, read it again. Then start building.
