ok...whats better for my turbo setup ... 84mm sleeves or 81mm ? What would be the advantage between one another? Thanks

I'd say that's up to you. A 84mm sleeve will up your displacement to about 1.9 (we're talking b18, right?). You'll need new pistons for that. The 81mm bore should leave you close to stock displacement.

well, id say that 84mm would get you more torque and HP than 81mm.
84 will cost more cuz you need pistons but since your sleeving your probabaly getting forged to go with them.

so id say you might as well get 84mm since your sleeving anyways.

Well if you're going to go with aftermarket sleeves, I don't see the point of going any smaller than 84mm. There are no advantages to going smaller.

if you go 84mm, then you need to match the pistons like everyone has said. also if you do go 84mm, its a good idea to match the bowls on the bottom of the head to the openings (84mm) of the cylinders. If you stay 81mm, your sleeves will be thicker, which means they will be stronger. but i know tons of people running 84mm, and have no problems as far as sleeves sinking, or busting. it all depends on the product you go with, and the machine shop thats doing it.

You don't have to get aftermarket sleeves for anything if you don't want to. Aftermarket ductile iron sleeves are simply much stronger than stock sleeves. That's why you want to do it with a high boosting turbo setup.

The person above said no, because no, it isn't necessary. 81mm is the stock piston size and stock bore. Even going with the stock size, it's good to sleeve it for the extra strength. Sleeving and not sleeving is the difference between boosting 10psi and boosting 20psi......with lots of dependence on tuning as well.

The only reason people don't do it is because of the relatively high price for the job. Around $800+.

And if you DO sleeve it, there is absolutely no point in doing anything smaller than 84mm.

Under friends account rite now...its c2nap rite now...

9 to 1 compression 81 mm pistons....eagle rods ... t04e50 turbo compressor. Bigger injectors...going to run 12-15 psi. Do you think I should sleeve my block?

Do you already have the pistons/rods?

Anyway, if you have the money available, do it. It'll definitely be much safer, and every time you boost your car, you don't have to have the possibility of a cracked sleeve always on your mind.

If you want to run 12-15psi, it'll be perfect. 12-15psi on stock sleeves with VERY good tuning is just about the limit of what our cars can take. Sleeve it and raise that limit by a lot. Down the road, you can boost higher if you want too, and since you have an 81mm bore, it'll be slightly stronger.
