Intro and basic tuning questions
Good morning
I have a 2002 Accord sedan I4 automatic. Up untill now I've had the car dealer serviced but now that it's out of warranty I'm ready to take a wrench to it myself.
I do alot of work on bikes and I've done some cars, but not much with FI so I'm pretty much a newb when it comes to working on a car like this.
I've also read the excellent intros posted here however I have some basic questions.
First, I'm due for a new air filter. At first I was just going to go with the K&N replacement for the stock filter, but I've seen "cold air intakes" for very little money. I'm wondering if a no-name cold-air system is better than simply replacing the stock filter with a K&N unit (and keeping the stock airbox), and if I do replace the airbox, do I need to do something with the computer (like you would re-jet a carb, for example), or will it adjust itself?
Also are there any good books on the subject of tuning Hondas?
Thanks.

yes, even generic cai's will yield more power, however, becareful.. some cheap cone filter are known to come apart.. also, if you live in an emissions controlled area like cali, you might want to consider investing in the name brand cai's for better quality filter, and the smog certification.
the best method for installing a new product is to disconnect the neg. terminal of the battery, install the product, then reinstall the battery.. this will reset the ecu and you're ready to go..

Um, resetting the ECU isnt required for any car, but it helps the computer adjust to the change quicker (even on a 94 accord).

Thanks guys.
I picked up "Honda & Acura Performance Handbook" by Mike Ancas this afternoon and I've just about finished it. That should put an end to the stupid questions
I also just picked up a BOMZ intake for $30, I figure even if I don't like it I can use it for decoration or something.
Thanks for the ECU reset tip, I'll let you know how it goes.
Ciao
