Default Replacing Oil Pan, anything else while I'm at it?

I should be getting an oil pan soon... with that said I obviously need to change the gasket. Is there anything else that I should do when it is off? Is there a real good way to clean the engine from the bottom? Are there any signs that I might be able to see and possibly predict the future of my motor? Just wanted to kill as many birds with one stone as possible. Thanks a lot guys, all input is appreciated!

BTW someone said possibly the oil pickup/screen, and the oil pump. how hard is it to replace the oil pump by removing the oil pan?

if u can, i'd replace the pickup and screen....idk about the pump tho, since its run by the timing belt u'd have to remove the belt, and while u're at it might as well replace that too......it wouldnt hurt, of course, to replace it, but what kind of clearance issues do u have w/ the timing belt and all that ****?
