Default newbie here..need some advice/input

Hello. Sorry if a thread has been created on the same topic as mine. I used the search function and could not find what I was looking for.

I'm 16 and I have been looking around for cars and me and my dad have been very interested in Preludes.

First off-I want a reliable car that suites my needs and has a eye-catchy appearance, it needs to last me a long time, preferably til I'm out of college.

Second-I don't plan on racing, an occasional race, but that's all. I mainly plan on hooking it up with a nice sound system.

So do you guys recommend a Prelude for my first car? I also want to drive a stick, but my dad wont let me. "It will be annoying as hell in traffic, especially around here and I don't want you having a stick for your first car"

That being said, I found a Prelude that I like, but my dad is iffy about it, because it has only 50k miles for only $10k..he thinks its a bit sketchy, what do you guys think?

Here it is-
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/...st=23

Thanks alot guys.

First of all Preludes look great, but as a owner I can tell you personally sound systems don't sound all that good in a prelude.

This is a reliable car and it depends if you want any performance, Stick is better for HP.

i thinki 10900 is too much for a 96, especially for an SI. i got my 95 vtec for 7500 with 55000 miles on it 2 years ago.
so 10900

I think that one on autotrader looks like a good choice. A Prelude would be a great first car, but I would try to get a stick if you can.

That one has low miles, which is a big plus. Also, it's an SI, so you will has a decent amount of power. And, if you decide later you want some more power, there are plenty of options for the H23.

I don't have an urge/need/want for performance right now.

The price on that Prelude negotiable, so maybe I can bring it down a bit. But is it me or does that deal seem a bit "fishy"

No, that looks pretty good. A prelude is a very fun car to have, just make sure you test drive it and make sure everything seems normal....Idles at about 6-800 rpm's(preludes tend to have idle problems, but they're pretty easy to fix once you figure it out ), transmission is good, body is straight(if you care about that), etc...

I was in the same boat as you anarchy, when I got my Prelude I couldn't see myself in any other car. Preludes, especially, 4th gens are great cars to start off with and to build on performance wise. I would try to get it in stick because its fun to drive with stick compared to an auto. Hopefully you'll get a lude and join us as another Prelude owner especially 4th gens.

prelude was my first car, and id reccomend it to anyone

getting a manual is much better than an automatic, especially in a prelude, it should have been one of those cars that only comes in manual, like the S2000.

also, having a manual will make you a better driver, because you have to pay more attention to driving, using the cluch, and shifting gears.

unless you live in or relatively close to a big city, and have no other choice but taking the roads where there is heavy traffic, how much traffic could there REALLY be???

your dad is making excuses to keep you from getting what you want.

Its a really good looking car, but 10.9 is really high. I bought my first 93 SI for $5 and it was absolutely perfect. You live in the DC area and so do I. Just sit back and wait a while, there are tons of people who lose their jobs and are desperate for cash. Thats how I scored both my cars. (Only paid $3.4 for my 94 SI) I would also recommend getting stick, DC traffic isnt that bad, plus you will have a lot of added control over your car. My advice is hold out for a while, it took me months to get a good car. Get a 92-96 VTEC, it will save you the time and money of having to do a swap when you get sick of the SI. Good luck.

there is nothing wrong w/ the prelude for a good sound system. Just make sure that you take measurements for your box because the trunk is not all that big. Big enough for two kicker compvr 12's though. And now a days all you really need is 10's anyway. My old system in my lude made your nose hairs itch and hit 149db's so i really dont understand why its not a good choice for a system? It's all in the install my friend...

I agree with the last guy. The prelude is great for a sound system. If you are interested, email me and i can send you pics of mine. Complete custom stereo installed and it sounds awesome. Mine happens to be for sale too. My IS300 is too expensive to keep both sideout2002@comcast.net

I hope you dont have any friends, or have another car you can take if you plan on driving with more than one person. The back seat has about enough room for my backpack. The trunk is tiny as hell too, dont plan on fitting a nice size box back there and still having room for other ****.
If you are that into a stereo system, my advice would be take out the back seats, and build a custom box so the subs are in the trunk, but face towards the front seats... you know what i mean? so there is a "wall" where the back seats back cushion would be.

One more thing.... if you want REALLY nice subs, that have a tiny *** box but are loud as **** and sound REALLY nice.... go with the Alumapro BP 10 or 12's.... they are like 300-400 for the sub and box. They are amazing for the size.

"The BP-12 is a 12-inch aluminum cone single tuned bandpass sub system utilizing dual 4-inch ports. The box measures 15.75 x 16 x 19.75 inches overall, and has internal volumes of about .8 and 1 cubic foot for the sealed and ported sides, respectively."

This is something else you can do if you do not want a box in the trunk.

it's not worth 10900 being a non-vtec automatic
you could get a 5th gen vtec automtic for that price.
but if you can talk him into letting you have a manual,
then get a 4th gen vtec

Yea I saw that Integra a couple days ago. My mother on the otherhand wont let me look into Integras because they are "too small" and about stick cars, my father is strongly against me driving a stick as my first car, so a stick for me is not happening.
