Default turboing my accord, thoughts?

i've already started ordering parts but this is basically what im doing. accord is completely stock now and will atleast look it when done

t3 super 60 .48 a/r w/ internal wastegate
Qucik time electronic 3 inch cut out(to be install onto down pipe)
stock supra sidemount(flows 390cfm)
vortech fmu 12:1
dsm 450's
dsm bov
custom pipes
custom log manifold
custom downpipe
routing intake into stock airbox with k&n filter
cheap manual boost controller and guage

This is what I have planned, ordered/got most already except the custom stuff and the turbo. only thing im not sure of completely is the fuel stuff. I think the 450's might be too big with just a fmu. I plan on getting hondata probably 3-4 months after the initial install. Its a 95 accord lx(f22b2) coupe. plan is to make it a sleeper plain and simple. It'll sound completely stock until i open up the cut(leaving stock peashooter on it) Not trying to set any reccords at the track, just doing it for fun. only wanna make like 220 whp max on this setup, and ive seen f22's making well over that on a stock block. This is the first turbo car i've done so i would like some advice, had a built b20 integra so i think i know what im doing for the most part but i just wanna make sure im not missing anything since its my first turbo project.

oh one more thing, its an automatic, probably not a big surprise since most accords are, but how will the tranny hold that power? a manual swap might be something i do down the road but like i said, im just doing this for fun.

thx.

sounds like a good set-up. Where can you buy that electric cut-out? Keep us updated on pictures and stuff..

A manual tranny swap would be more fun to drive, but the auto has its advantages too. Level 10 products are good for an auto build-up

and I really don't see a way to keep your stock airbox with this whole set-up

http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/ for the electronic cut out.

not 100% on using the stock air box, might be more trouble than its worth. I just know that if its possible it would cut down on the noise, and thats kinda what im going for. if its too much trouble no big deal.

are you sure that auto tranny will hold up??

Ive heard many storys about honda auto trannys breaking once any power is put to them

also, how are you going to run the intake through a filter? so no filter on the intake side of the turbo??? thats not good. also that stock air box and tube is not that air tight, expect to lose some compression from that.

also , how much boost do you expect to be pushing and how much can a stock f22b2 take?

to run those DSM 450's you need some sort of computer control, the stock ECU will not run w/ 450cc injectors. ditch the FMU & do the AFC hack w/ the DSMs or lose the DSM's & run just the FMU & a missing link/check valves.

boost the auto tranny till it blows and then do a 5sp conversion.

probably only gonna run about 8lbs daily, maybe 10 max. i've read about people running 12 daily so i think at 8 i should be pretty safe.

i think im gonna get some smaller injectors now, something in the 300-400cc range. responded to a post with some guy selling 345cc's, fmu, and a walboro. I think that would do it. Might end up getting a safc on top of that too tho.

The idea of using the stock airbox is just a thought right now. instead of having a cone right on the end the intake side of the turbo i would just route a pipe into the stock airbox using that. It wouldnt need to be air tight or anything being that its only the intake. I dont think I wouldnt get as much power out of the stock airbox, but it would deffinately make it a lot quieter. But i've also thought that and I think the air over there would be a bit cooler than the air right next ot the turbo, block and manifold. anyways just a thought, it'd be 10x easier just to put a cone filter on it.

I really dont know a thing about the auto tranny. I'd assume several auto accords have bene boosted tho, just because probably 80% of accords are autos stock. 220whp will be nice, and its a little less than average than ive seen coming from boosted f22b2 dynos so i think it'll hold. I would like to hear from someone who has experience with a auto turbo accord tho, or someone who atleast knows about the trannys a little just so i know for sure.

i would definately invest in a tranny cooler since you are running an auto tranny. I'm tallying up prices right now on doing mine. stay with the 450 cc injectors that way you don't have to upgrade later if you wanna up the boost a little bit. they just won't be running at their full duty cycle.

the factory air box will be in the way of your charge pipe from your intercooler (assuming you're gonna run one) you won't be able to use the factory air box...

I agree, keep the 450's. Any change from stock injector size will require some sort of computer control to run them, the ECU won't drive bigger than stock w/o problems.

i think 8lbs of boost daily on the auto tranny will blow it very quickly. i would keep it to 6lbs, till you got enough $$ for a 5sp swap.

not too familiar with how the auto tranny works but i was looking at these: http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/nc...r=361 what exactly would this do for me? would it essentially make my tranny able ot handle more power?

first things first...u need to research...

DO NOT RUN THE FMU!

get a afc and some 450s and if u can afford get some 550cc rc injectors..(give u more room to tune..(get the walbro fuel pump also).forget the sleeper thing under the hood...un less u are going to get a clear hood there is no reason to try to keep it stock under there! a turbo dose not make ur car louder....the only thing loud is the turbo spooling and the bov.

for the auto...get a good tranny cooler...and dont beat the car up every day and it should last!

RESEARCH AND DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME! OR U WILL PAY!

d not a bad set up ,with the boost u will blow the tranny fast .for a daily driver on stock internals 5-6 is good to boost max,the auto tranny does have sum benfits like the launch ,while ur fully boosted off the jump a stick is not .hold the brake and gas then release!! cuz its an auto it will constantly want to shift so u will always be in boost .but do know if u buy a kit which may people make it comes with everythin u need and new for a stock engine!!!i was gonna do my f22b2 but i think im gonaa build up an h23 and boost it..i lve my motor but this is the best wat to go for sum.

not just honda auto tranny, almost all the auto design for NA couldnt take much pressure. No mk iv supra or GN here

the air filter would go into the air compresser inlet.

stock air box will leak like a ****, the air box would blowing air out of the gap

Apex'i vafc or safc is pretty good for budget baller but again, if you can afford it, aem or hondata or even greddy e-manage.

are you running blue or black top injector?

Guys, about the tranny blowing up and not capable of taking much power. Couldnt you upgrade to a prelude tranny to take the power since they are rated to take at least 200hp stock on the 97+ preludes. That would mean it should be able to handle more power right? Or is it still just as weak if I took the Accord tranny up to 200+ hp.

Accord Hp with stock tranny=150hp
Prelude Hp with stock tranny=200(or is it 190 cuz of auto?)

Wouldnt it make more sense to use the prelude tranny as a upgrade then. I know its still going to be weak but its better than using a weaker tranny.

about the airbox setup.. i think hes trying to say that hes gonna be using the airbox to connect to the compressor inlet. instead of just using a filter, he's gonna rout a tube from the compressor inlet to the factory airbox. common guys dont be so duh about this shizzz. think about it

I think its gonna be hard to do that cuz of room for piping. How is he gonna run the piping under the hood. Clearance seems to be an issue because the piping would have to be in the way of the intake charge piping. Pretty pointless to me. If you dont want sound then go stock. Turbos make noises, from the WG to the BOV....its gonna be loud. Better yet, the exhaust that he's gonna have to get is going to be loud.

point taken and i agree with that. i was just explaining what he guy was saying. i've actually sen it done in a pic but never seen it in person. as far as routing the pipes in an accord, space is pretty limited so you are right about not having room. I had to do some modifications to get my piping to fit right and as far as the sound, theres no better sound than a turbo spooling and the blow off whistling

im glad boonacka said something. i was beginning to think i was stupid with the talk about the air box not being air tight. lol. he understood what i was saying. Its just an idea in my head right now. the intake pipe for the turbo would either have to over or under the charge pipe going to the TB for it to work. Its deffinately possible, im just not sure if its worth the trouble. probably wont make that kind of a decision until the pipes start going on the car so i can see how it easy/hard it will be.

as for the other noise issues, it will deffinately be loud as **** when the cut out is open. I know that much. but when its closed it'll go into the stock exhaust and it might have a little different sound too it, but it wont be loud i dont think. I'm using a stock dsm bov, which can either be really loud or very quiet. I'll have the resistor hooked up tho so it wont make much noise at all. The turbo is gonna make some noise too, but there isnt really much i can do about that, I think with the cut out closed tho it'll be a lot quieter tho running though the stock exhaust, just bc it'll spool a lot slower when its closed.
