Default door or seatbelt sensor, 89 Si?

Hi- Looking for help with what seems to be a sensor problem (which in turn is running down the battery) in an 89 Si (110K, manual).

After I hit a pothole a few months back, the door/seatbelt light started been going on for no reason. The thing beeped, and beeped, and beeped; it stopped intermittently but was beeping more often than not. Re-closing the doors didn't help. We took out the beeper (from around where the rear-view mirror is mounted) which got rid of the sound but not, evidently, the problem-- the light still lights.

I'm intermittently (but not as often as the door/belt light is on) hearing a clicking sound, maybe a switch of some sort? coming from roughly the passenger side door opening. (It's definitely not coming from under the hood, and I'm reasonably sure that it's not coming from the passenger-side dash-- but I'm also pretty certain that it's coming from that side of the car.)

Whatever it is, it keeps on clicking after I turn the car off, and I'm getting verrrry tired of having to jump-start a dead battery. (It does recharge and hold the charge when I drive, so not an alternator thing.)

I've checked the Chilton manual and didn't see anything obvious. The car runs fine otherwise but doesn't get driven as often as it should.

Suggestions, please? Please?

Perhaps something came loose when you hit that pothole? Which light stays on? The seatbelt one by the rearview mirror, or the door ajar one on the dash? If it's the door one, I'd say take a look at that little L-shaped switch in the door jam. Your car has door-mounted belts, correct?

It's the door-open light on the dash that stays on-- bottom row of warning lights, one in from the the left. The owner's manual says that that light means any belt or door. (Gee, thanks, Honda.) Frankly, until we removed whatever made it beep from above the rear-view mirror, I didn't realize there even was a light there (have only had the car for ten years, always use seatbelts), so I assume that light was not being lit.

When the light and beep first started, slamming the passenger door occasionally stopped the light and beep, so between that and the clicking on the passenger side I assume that's where the problem is or relates to.

I'll check the switch on the door-- belts are indeed door-mounted. Thanks.

(It seems clear that something did get knocked loose when I hit the pothole-- the door/belt warning went off immediately, has been going on-and-off since, never had a problem with it before.)

I have been reading other posts and found out that Honda warrants their seatbelts for life.

I just had both of my seatbelts replaced at a factory Honda shop. -a 1990 CRX Si, 16 years old at the time of writing. Having these replaced, I unscrewed my rear view mirror and plugged in the once annoying seat belt reminder.... and guess who returned .... that annoying beep.

Let me back up a few years ... my car was experiencing the click, click of a solenoid in the door after the car was turned off and it was killing my battery. I found the offending part and "pulled the plug" on it. The problem with the dead battery was solved. As a consequence, I may have defeated some safety feature such as tensioners or retractors. I would recommend contacting the local Honda dealership and inquiring on a warranty replacement.

In my case, they replaced two complete seatbelt systems, minus the anchor points near the emergency brake. I went to hondaautomotiveparts.com and priced the two items $280.41 and $300.75 (parts only) dang!

I returned to the service dept 1 day later (today) having re-plugged in my beeper hidden above my rear view mirror at lunch and said that the beep and lights on the dash "appeared".
(I personally thought that the complete belt system replacement would solve my problems)

The service guy said that he thinks the seatbelt anchors (CRX OEM) may need replacement. We set up an appointment for next Tuesday. I'll let you know of the outcome.

There may be several issues at hand here:

+ Solenoid in door that clicks (drains battery)
+ The annoying beep that comes from the rearview mirror
+ The flashing light(s) on the dash that flash forever.

Honda had warranted out my my seatbelt assembly - both passenger and driver. They replaced all of the "guts" both electrics/solenoid/tensioners and belts. This solved the "click, click" that drained my battery. All I had to do was complain that the seatbelts would not retract.

The second issue I had was to squelch the beep - As stated in other posts , unscrew the rear view mirror and unplug the blue connector.

Lastly, The flashing lights ... My local Honda service rep had played "gatekeeper" and said that I was at partially at fault for the beeps coming from my rear view mirror. (I had the two-wire passenger seat belt sensor unplugged). In my opinion, this did not have any impact on the fact that the system was still broken, plugged in or not!

He said that he could do some "diagnosis" at $90/hour. 30-60 minutes he said. I passed at his offer and would continue to live with the flashing lights. The lights seem a bit ghetto though.

I may try another dealer next time with "all of my ducks in a row" -all of the seatbelt sensor wires plugged in under my seats, beeping noise ablazing from my rear view mirror, and the lights aflashing on my dashboard. Every light and noise pointing to my seatbelts!

Warranty these dammit!
