I have a 99 Honda Accord auto with 97k miles on it. I have noticed it hesitates when it comes out around a corner. It felts like it down shifts and then when I steps on the gas it speeds up. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

 

its that freakish 8g acceleration out of the turn! all the gas is being sucked out of the fuel system by vicious centrifugal forces and...... (just kidding)

actually, for me this kind of behavior usually starts me wondering how long its been since the last tune up.

 

Check your oil. I have the same problem and it is always when my oil is low.
A hard corner shifts the oil and robs the VTEC of hydraulic lift if you are at 4000rpm or above.
Better to let off the gas and keep your engine below 4000rpm just to be safe. Check the oil right away.

I have the same problem on my 99 accord and I have been trying to figure out what it could be for some time. Do you turn in 2nd gear? also, what is your gas mileage? Do you see a lot of soot in your exhaust?

eswaroop, could it be just the way these stinkn Hondas are?? I have an automatic and it does that...inconsistently though. I tuned it up not long ago too.

I have had a power loss on occasion while accelerating hard on an on-ramp to a freeway. Always the same ramp. And yes, in 2nd gear. The hard corner puddles the oil and robs the vtec of hydraulic lift just as you need it most. The vtec kicks in around 4000 just as you round the hardest part of the corner and voila your engine decides it doesn't want to go above 4000RPM.
This happens when my oil is low.
My car has 240000KM and it sucks oil like a pig. Yes there is a black ring around my tail pipe. This %^%$ car started eating oil around 60000 and has since gotten progressively worse. Down to about 1L every 700KM. And before you tell me something is wrong with my car I &%#@ know there is. I've been down the garden path with Honda starting at 60000 and ending up at 16000km (the end of my warranty).
We monitored the oil consumption at a dealership for over a year and all Honda had to say was "oil consumption was normal" at 1L every 2000KM on average. Oh yes, this "average" didn't take into account the high consumption rate recorded toward the end of my warranty. At that time I figure I was using about 1L every 1200KM ( a litre every second gas fill) and I told them the rate of oil consumption was increasing but thay said it averaged out and refused to pick my engine apart and have a look for the problem. Bean counting &*% a-wipes. I don't know if I will buy another Accord thank you.
So now I check the oil constantly. Oh yes, I have no leaks by the way.

 

I have 97k miles on it. But don't know how to change to the advanced metric system. Are we Americans backwards or what. LOL. Just kidding.
