Default H22A head on an F23A1 (Accord 98' 2.3L)

Is it possible to install the head of an H22A on an F23A1? If not, what would be a good N/A mod for this engine?

yes, it has been done. It is not cheap by any means, swapping the entire motor would be cheaper.

is possible but i think it might be weaste of time. what is the bore size on the f23a?? is it 85mm??? if it is than i don't think it'll would work well with the h22a head, because the h22a heads is designed for 87mm bore.
why not swap the engine to an complete h22a?
There are not many parts for the f23a1 on the market.

I asked the same question with a few performance shops and they told me it couldn't be done. The reasoning was that there are some cooling passages and oil passages that are diffrent in the block and heads. Does anyone know for sure or done it before first hand?

i don't know man.... i never hear of anyone has done it before, but maybe for the oil you can tap the head just like the LSvtec. the best thing to do i would say go with the h22a swaps...

remember prelude motors and drag gen 3 kits are on sale at my work

anything can be done with the right amount of money, but in all honestly, it's far from being economically feasible... after all, the H-series blocks and F-series blocks have completely different coolant passages... plus the H22 is an open block, while the Accords are closed blocks... (I hope I'm getting this right, but if I'm wrong, blame the wine)...

The H22A1 is closed deck and the H22A4 is open deck.
Does anyone know if the JDM H22As are open or closed deck?

the closed or open would depend on the year of the motor jdm or non jdm i would assume.,

Japan never had a H22A1 or H22A4. All JDM motors for all years were just called H22A, even the S-spec motors. So I don't know what the deck design is.

It is possible. Javier over at JG Engine Dynamics has done it. I found out because I had the same question. It takes a bit of machining according to him, but it works.. and the figures are almost identical. He also mentioned it WOULD be much cheaper (he actually recommended it).

Oh and.. H22A's do have a closed deck.
You would want to replace your accord pistons with higher compression pistons if you did this swap.. a good bore/hone and maybe some Type-S pistons.

This doesn't sound right. I can't believe putting a H22 head on an F23 with fabrication and honing and putting in new pistons would be cheaper than doing a whole H22 swap. Anyways, the resulting H22/F23 hybrid will have long gear ratios that are wasted on the H22s power band, unless you install a H22 tranny as well... $$$
