Default Running rich, do I NEED a fuel rail and FPR to fix on a dyno

My 5th gen is running rich. I just installed my VAFC 2, and I want to know if I NEED an aftermarket fuel rail and FPR in order to dyno tune. From what the guy said, it would help as far as horsepower is concerend, but I mainly want to get rid of the soot on the bumper, and I don't want to spend an extra $300 or so unless it is necessary. Any help would be appreciated. Yes I searched, and the only thing I could find was the difference between tuning the fuel mixture with the vafc compared to tuning it with the FPR. Thanks a bunch guys.

v-afc is all you need. you aren't really concerned with how rich it may be at partial throttles...it's mainly WOT where all the fuel gets added.

you search eh? did you look at the esential links?

Yes. I have read every post in every thread on VAFC's in the essential links section. There was one in there that was asking what kind of mods, but he was asking about cams and cam gears. The reason I was asking, was because the guy at Pettit Racing said that I should get both and FPR, and Fuel Rail. I am not too worried about the HP gains, more about the cloud of smoke everytime I decide I want a taste of Vtec. I don't mind spending the money if it is necessary, but if it isn't, I can think of a lot better ways to spend $300. Like some altezza's and a hood scoop.

the vafc will be sufficient, using the fpr would be beneficial when tuning but it's not neccesary. the 300.00 dollars would be better spent on a set of cam gears, not alteezas and a hood scoop.

yep, a set of cam gears or an adjustable FPR and some dyno time.
