Just got an S on Wednesday, got a ticket on Saturday
Well, I got my first S2000 Wednesday night. I'm pretty excited.
Yesterday was the first weekend that I got to drive it. Overall I'm a pretty conservative driver. I rarely drive fast, and I'm pretty much never unsafe.
I was coming home from my cousin's house on a long, wide, smooth road. The weather was great, and some car was tailing me semi-close. I wasn't very familiar with that road since the last time I was on it was a year ago and back then it wasn't as smooth.
Turns out I was going 52 in a 40. The guy tailing me was a cop. I'm kinda frustrated right now because I think I was driving pretty safely for the conditions. I'm wondering if it was just because of the car. I later heard that Saturday is a big "racer" night around there.
Have any of you gotten lame tickets that you think might be just because you have an S2000? Every other ticket I've ever gotten in my life has been a "ahh.. you got me" kind of experience. I felt it was deserved. Except this one.

thats shitty man..cause when your going 50mph on country roads it feels SLOW..sometimes cops are just a-holes cause both you and they know your not harming anyone or anything

I'm actually thinking that I'm going to hire an traffic lawyer for this one.
I have a future goal of being a cop one day, and this will hurt my record. There are some cops that understand what is safe, and there are some cops that are too lazy to use good judgement.

The good thing is, in California, on backroads, speed signs are not Maximum speeds. They are just assumed safe speeds. The law states that one cannot travel at an unsafe speed unless it is higher than the state Maximum... which I believe is 60 unless another Maximum speed is posted.
What the posted recommended speed does is make it so that once you go over that speed, it is not the driver that must prove the higher speed was safe. Cops are allowed to issue tickets to drivers driving safely if they are above the posted speed because the cop does not have the burden of proof.

sure I've gotten pulled over more times in this car where I felt the color and "mods" on the car were factors in the officer segregating me out from the trucks and soccer mom SUV's that are over the roads down here. I've been driving my smashed up Tundra (smashed driver side bed, no taillight assembly for over 6 months and have never gotten pulled over. I drive my S2000 once if week if that much or whenever I have to drive it to get work done, I'll get pulled over for some lame excuse, no light on the license plate or something. When they have nothing better to do, ie if you in an area where the biggest crime officers tend to is breaking up late night high school parties, of course they'll pull over whoever they wish.

it's definately because you have an S. let a soccer mom van drive around 10-12 mph over limit on a country road and see if they'd get pulled. it wouldnt happen.

Speeding?
According to California law, I was only speeding if the speed I was travelling was unsafe.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
California Vehicle Code
Division 11, Chapter 7, Article 1
Section 22350
No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed
greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather,
visibility, the traffic on, and the surface and width of, the
highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of
persons or property.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The posted speed limit on that road is a Prima Facie Speed Limit. It is merely a recommendation by that state for rural roads in general. Prima Facie Speed Limits are not the law. Exceeding the Prima Facie Speed Limit is not breaking the law.
I was on a wide rural road. The weather conditions were clear. The road condition was dry. The traffic condition was light. There were no cars in front of me. There was little to no oncoming traffic. On each side of the road was at least 15 to 20 feet of dirt before there were any structures.
This ticket is not going to stick.

I hate attitudes like this. It's cops with this type of attitude that nitpick on imports.

See if you can fight the ticket in court. I am also an aspiring police officer, (hopefully very, very soon) and I would say, just be extra cautious when driving. If you are serious about a career in law enforcement, then don't get anymore tickets.

My apologies, I did not understand that the speed limit was not a designated limit. Here in Florida it is, so when someone complains about speeding, I tend to take the attitude that I did. It just irritates me when someone bitches about getting in trouble for breaking the law.

Correct. There is the maximum speed but you are not over that. The posted sign is a recommended speed.

I fought a ticket like this and won, good luck. A couple of times I have been pulled over and I told the cop this (I was always going under 55) and they did not write me a ticket. Cops get people all the time for simply not knowing the law. Looks like you've done your research.

Yeah I agree. If you pay attention to it you can actually tell there are more cops out, especially speed traps.

They just don't offically call it a quota. The higher ups just mention in the morning meetings that there seems to be a low amount of tickets being issued.
They also might point out in the officer's logs that it seems like they're not busy enough. In order for an officer to justify his time, he needs to show that he's doing something. Tickets are an easy way to show that.
