super messed up idle
when i turn the car on its at 2400rpm, when its warm its 1400rpm.. it was 1700 but the throttle cable was adjusted wrong and i got it down to 1400rpm.
a friend of mine who runs a shop in town was helping me figure some things out and we came up with some stuff..
there are no vacuum leaks
coolant fan temp sensor is bad
IAC valve works
TPS is questionable
fast idle thermo valve is questionable
the timing has worked its way up to 30 somehow, so we turned the dissy away from the firewall to retard it a little but that just made the car accelerate slower, didnt lower the idle at all.
when the key is in the 2nd pos and you put a paperclip in the plug for the coolant fan temp sensor the fans turn on. if the car is just sitting there on the fans will turn on eventually but if you are driving around and stopped at a redlight the car will start to overheat sometimes, so i just turn on the ac, which forces the fans to turn on, until it cools down or i start driving again.
we used a laser temperature meter to test the temp on the engine and parts of the cooling system. the fast idle thermo valve runs about 15 degrees cooler than the rest of the cooling system, which we were not sure if this was normal or if flow of coolant was restricted and caused it to run colder.
any suggestions?
