I've searched this on several forums...no luck yet. Here's the problem:
When starting engine cold, it misfires randomly at certain points the low rpm range (1k-3k). Sometimes cel codes 71-74 come up. I've replaced cap and rotor, tried a different set of injectors and plugs and there is no change. After driving, when engine warms up, it's all good. Any idea guys?

I have a similar situation. When I cold start in the morning, or whenever, the car misses until it warms up. I don't throw any codes though, so I think it's my exhaust piping going to crap from running extremely rich for a weekend. What do those CEL codes refer to? ...maybe the same thing is happening?

fully built gs-r block 9:1 comp.
ferrea valvetrain
stock cams
toda cam gears/timing belt
drag 3 turbo kit
new t3 w/60-1 comp.
quaife atb/lsd
exedy 4-puck clutch
msd 6-btm (not currently being used)
440 dsm injectors
vafc/avcr
codes 71-74 are misfires in cylinders
code 13 is barometric sensor...i think
only throws misfire codes if i hold the gas down a little bit.

I couldn't check the codes when I bent my valves a while back, but it sounds like that's what you might have (bent valves).
Did you mis-shift at all recently?

but if i had bent valves then it should run bad and tick regardless of temp. it only runs bad when first starting the car up in the morning. also, the car will run fine for about 2 seconds before acting up. haven't had a mis-shift since motor was rebuilt.
sensor maybe?
i need to get rid of this obd2 crap and get a hondata!

cap and rotor have been replaced, wires will be next and i guess i should check the ignitor...any other suggestions?
Hi Anderson,
I have a 91 integra and I'm having similar problems like you...when the engine is cold... like morning starts or leaving it for a day or two then starting it. I have to turn the engine a lot and when it finally catches, it misfires until it sorta "clear it throat" after it warms up it runs fine...then I can turn if off and it will start quickly like normal...but whenever I leave for more than 8 hrs or so, it misses when after starting...the only thing I did recently was installed a new rubber hose that supplied heater water to a mechanism---cold choke thing ??...the rubber hose sprag a leak....ah...that rubber hose took a sharp bend I recall...maybe it is not supplying the heater water properly...pinch in the hose...I'll check it out...Otherwise, this car was running fine...
Some people were commenting that with nearly 200K, the fuel pump would be going or a fuel filter plugged...but if that were the case, it should screw up hot or cold...Maybe your problem is in the cold starting automatic choke area...I did mark all rubber hoses before I took them off to insure proper reinstall....
Additionally, I have had a problem of intermittent misfiring in the past. After doing a tuneup and still have it misfire, it was the coil which i have had problem with other make of cars, too.
Later, ron

Bump from the dead because I have the same problem right now!
Similar setup to Mr. Anderson's, however I'm running RC 750's (saturated) and Hondata S300. All parts are brand new. Fuel pressure is good. Fuel pump is new.
At first when it happened I thought maybe my MSD SCI box was interfering with Hondata. Tonight I took out the MSD setup and installed a brand new distributor (Distributor King), as well as new plugs (BKR7E's gapped at .30).
It's definitely an ignition issue of some sort, the car is getting fuel.
No codes stored or have come on at all.
Anyone have a clue? I just replaced the spark plug wires with new ones, we'll see what happens tomorrow

I'm suffering from the same problem. I keep getting misfiring codes as well, I already changed my spark plugs, wires, and cap. I tested the ignition coil (its reading well and meets the range as listed on service manual). I haven't replaced the rotor yet...any ideas. running stock, with adj. cam gear and aem pulleys. I reset the ecu, but codes come back on the second time I start the car back up.
