1/4 Mile Time
Hi,
I'm new to the list. I was wondering if any of you are from the DC/MD/VA area. I don't know anyone around here who I can chat with who has a 5gen Lude. I'm slowly starting to build up the engine. As of right now, I have only I/H/E..Tanabe DTM exhaust, DC Sports Ceramic Headers, and an AEM CAI I bought a while back. Got a V-AFC but it's not installed yet. Anyhow, I just recently starting going to the track and my best 1/4 mile is a 15.2~ My roommate has a 98 BMW 328i with a chip, intake, and exhaust and his best is a 14.6~ I thought I'd be a lot more evenly matched w/ him but that doesn't seem to be the case. Assuming my launches are on point, and they haven't been totally, what do you guys think I should be running? What about after I install the V-AFC and get it dyno-tuned? I'm also running on my stock tires and my car has 40,000 miles and has yet to see its first maintaince. Do you think I should be running better after the maintainance? Any suggestions in terms of mods? Sorry for all the questions, but I could really use some feedback. Thanks in advance.

#1. You only have one header... so it's not plural
#2. reduce the air pressure of your tires up front, and increase them in the back. Up front should be maybe... 15-18psi? This will give you better traction.
#3. Make sure you have taken out your spare tire, jack, and any other things laying in your truck. Also it helps to run under a 1/4 tank of gas.
#4. Try adding a bottle of octane booster, and advancing your timing.
#5. Post up your timeslips. If not the slips, all the info from it. You can tell a lot by the trap speeds and times.
#6. Dont worry about that kraut mobile your roomate drives. I was running those same times.... stock... with 90,000 miles. He's not the ****.
#7. Change the plugs and see what happens.
#8. VAFC should be installed on the dyno. You'll never doubt why once you get there.
#9. Lower that thing. That will help with traction.
#10. Welcome to the best Prelude forum there is.
oh yeah, and a few of us will be at Summit Point on Nov 3-4th in West VA. Feel free to swing by.

no way! if u want a reallllllly good 60' u want it lower soo its much easier to get
higher psi = wheel spin or hop!
and it also depneds on your style
i do 18psi and get 2.2's i have also used 28psi and gotten 2.2's
but 18 seemed much easier and i got 2.2s more

Thanks for the welcome and all the info. I'll be sure to take it into account the next time I hit the track.
About calling headers headers, instead of a header.. I used to always just use the singular form, but then I noticed everyone always refering to them in the plural form so I just went along with it. Oh well, I guess now I know..never did make sense to me anyways. Here's the info from my best timeslip. I was running with normal stock tire pressure, although I did dump out everything in my trunk except the jack. Had around a 1/4 tank of gas in my car..give or take.
15.2238 @ 92.8790
RT - 1.1939
60 ft. - 2.3136
330 ft. - 6.4939
1/8 mile - 9.8862

A 1.1939 RT? That doesn't sound right.
OK, VeeTec is right on some degree. It isn't exactly GOOD for your tires to drop the pressure... but it helped. Even got a 2.18 once I think after I lowered my car. Regular tire pressure and all I got was 2.3x's.

I have seen a timeslip for a 5th generation prelude (stock) running 14.86. You can do a lot better, esp. with your modifications.
1-3 gear: 7,400 RPMS.
4th gear: 7,000 RPMS to jump over the line.

I agree with everything but that one. If you could advance the timing on the 5th gen then it would be a good idea to do this, but you can't since the ECU controls timing and the distributor cannot be physically turned (unless you make some modifications to it and then the ECU will just readjust the timing back to stock for you).

gimme a break! it was my first trip to the track!
Don't forget to limit the amount of fuel you have in your tank while you race... one gallon is equal to 8 lbs. correct? so if you have about 3 gallons in your car, you'll be able to run at the track without having your pesky gas light come on...
