hello guyz i was wondering is a t28 turbo smaller than a t3 turbo? i think a t28 would be perfect for my y8 what do u guyz think? when i had a t28 on my b16 years ago its was very nice. spooled up very fast. TIA

 

The T28 is a T3/T25 hybrid. It's a T25 turbine mated to a T3 compressor. You get the fast spool of hte T25 and the increased flow of the T3.

The straight T3 uses a T3 turbine and T3 compressor.

So overall, the T3 is bigger.

A properly sized T28 is a great turbo though. JalopySiR made 206 whp @ 6 psi on a stock B20 with it.

The T3 will ultimately make more power and has the ability to be converted into a T3/T04 hybrid. You will also have more manifold options. This would be a good turbo if you think you'll want more power later.

The T28 will be a great street/daily driver turbo. The cool thing about the T28 is that the ones from the S14 and S15 Silvia are water-cooled ball-bearing units that can be picked up pretty cheap. HKS makes a cast iron manifold with the T25 flange. The T28 will limit your max HP potential though. Even with the biggest housings and compressor wheel, you probably won't exceed 300-325 whp with it.

I'd probably go with the T3 for no other reason than the flange. You'll have so many more options in terms of manifolds and turbos.

But it depends on what your goals are. My car is built for autox, and I could care less about BIG power. More than 250 whp is a waste. Currently, I'm using a t25 and getting about 185 whp @ 7 psi , but I do plan to upgrade to a slightly larger turbo. The GT28RS would be *perfect*.

 

where can i find a silvia ball bearing one? how much do they go for anyways?

i'm using a t28 from a nissan rb20det engine but it's not ball bearing but ceramic blade. i only got 182whp and 140lb-ft of torque at 3.5k to 4k rpm on hot philippine weather. overall its good for the streets but if you want big hp then get a t3 or a t3/t4

 

i've been trying to find used t28s for a while now. No luck, trying to get the GTiR one. But there are different T28 supposelying the one off the GTiR is the best (the ones come stock).

 

Our d's loveeee t3's. I wish I could get my we-todd-did account working so I could post my dyno graph... 175 ft/lbs from like 3800 on.

I love that turbo. IMHO it's the best sized turbo for streetable honda motors , D or B series. Not to big nor small!

Man a t28 on a b16 or b18c1 would be ideally a very very smooth power band.

Now, I'm the guy who has done this and I must agree with Fsp31: Go with a straight T3. Like a .48 turbine, and a .60a/r compressor with a 60 trim wheel would be nice. While I LOVED my setup, it was a BITCH to complete. No-one knows anything about T25 based turbos. Oil lines, flanges, downpipes are all hard to source. I would go with the T3 just for the fact that it is so much easier. Having gone the Nissan Pulsar GTi-R T28 route, I could do a T3 buildup in my sleep. If you have any questions, Sonny, Charlie Moua, and myself all know ALOT about T28s.

 

hmm i think t3's gonna win.. i always thought that t28 were bigger lol.. cuz i had on my b16 four years ago and that thing looked bigger than the t3.. yeah one more thing bout the t3 is that u can find one at a junkyard for dirt cheap lol.. but if anyone gots a t28 ball bearing for sale for hella cheap ill take it haha. thanks guyz

out flows a big t28 by 50 cfm's, rated for 380 horsepower, holds up 22psi to redline
and hits full boost as quick as a t25.

will try to get some dyno numbers on a b18c1 (stock internals) in the future?
I have to convince dainteg to swap turbos.
