Default how long does your oil light stay on?

i just noticed recently that my red oil light doesnt go off immediately when i'm starting the car, it stays on for about a quarter of a second after the engine catches ( summer temperatures around here ). i changed the oil ( 5w 40 ) thinking that could be the cause, made no difference. how long does your light stay on?

It stays on for about 1/2 second or so. Maybe a bit longer when it was really cold out.

mine stays on all the time. i thought that was normal

jk Id say about a 1/2 second or so. I think it depends if you are parked on a hill as well as it might take a sec for the oil pickup to get the oil flowin.

So I'm guessing he was running either the 5W30 or 10W30 before he switched.

And just for kicks my oil indicator/idiot light goes off in about half a second as already reported and I run 10W60. So I'd presume it isn't the oil weight alone.
