Default USDM 4th gear into JDM tranny -- worth it?

I have a 2000 JDM ITR tranny. Specs are as follows:

1st-3.230
2nd-2.105
3rd-1.458
4th-1.034
5th-0.787

FD- 4.785

This tranny uses a longer 4th and 5th gear (GSR ones) because of the higher final drive. The USDM ITR tranny uses a 1.107 4th gear.

My car is used for street driving, with 4-5 road course events per season and 1-2 trips to the drag strip. My local road course is Gingerman in South Haven, MI.

Anyone have experience with this mod? Is it worth it?

Luke, i'm going to try it. i was going to try the ls 5th, too, since i plan on a high rev limit, and will only use 5th for hwy, but now that i have a beater, i might only puss-out so far as to keep the gsr 5th if i ever get my project done, running well, and don't blow it up before then, you can see it @ ef-h day @ g-man.

I had an 90-93 LS 5th gear in a cable b16 tranny and it was really nice on the freeway.

I think that the GSR 5th will be fine on the highway, even with the 4.78 FD. Cruise at about 4400@80 mph.

Anyone else?

I will hit 5th gear @ VIR (twice on full course) and Summit point.... I would not want to drop that ratio further for track use that has a long straight.

How fast do people get to on the straightaway at Gingerman?

This USDM 4th gear could take me to about 113 mph.

111 mph at 8500 rpm with USDM 4th gear.

I am riding on 195/60/14. You probably have taller tires.

get some 205/50/15s or 195/55/15s, and rev higher.
