EF9 axle dilema!!!! passenger side to long???
Well here is my situation, I have a 91 Civic hatch Si. I run a B16, and have converted the whole braking system over to integra. This includes brake booster, master cylinder, rear trailling arm, and front hub assemblies. A friend of mine hooked me up with his old axles and intermediate shaft, these worked well for awhile till they started making noise. I pulled these out several months ago and took them to Schucks autoparts and purchased the lifetime warranty pieces of ****. Since then I have gone through about 5 axles on each side trying to get just one good set.
Now the problem is the passenger side axle. Three of the 5 axles have acted as if they were to long. For example, when I take left hand corners very hard the axle binds up and sounds like it is going to break. Now the other 2 of the 5 didn't bind up but they had bad CV joints from the get go.
I think I know what the problem is but I am not to sure. So here I go, the end of the axle that goes into the tranny. It has a little shoulder, well the one that keeps binding and giving me probems is a 1/2 inch shoulder. Now if I remember correctly the other axles (the two that didn't bind) had a 3/8 inch shoulder. Well after coming to this conclussion I went to Schucks and NAPA to take a look at there passenger axles (which they have in stock) to see what there shoulders measure up to. They were both 1/2 shoulders. So what aplication has the damn 3/8 shoulder???????
Now what made me even look into this shoulder jazz, was the fact that the 2 (shorter) axles would actually butt up against the tranny, unlike the longer 1/2 shoulder axle which sits away from the tranny about 1/8 inch.
I contacted HASport about this situation too. They said don't use the Integra hubs!! To late! Perhaps the JDM SiR Axles would work? How do the JDM Hubs compare to the Integras'. I would think they were the same?
I hope someone else has had this problem besides me!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please GOD let there be an answer!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ask Schucks if they have a different part number for 90-93 Integra and the 94-01 Integra. Autozone doesn't. I had that problem before. I ended up going to a junkyard. I found a low milage 90-93 Integra, and $300 later, I had a spare tranny, CORRECT midshaft, and CORRECT axles that I then had rebuilt.
They aren't in the car yet, but when compared to my AutoSHIT axles, they were almost 3/4" shorter per side.
I had the same binding noises, but only when making a left turn, and it was worst when I was braking, or going over bumps, which compressed the suspension the most.

Wait what?
I thought I read on here that 94+ Integra axles will work as long as you use the 94+ inter shaft and change a seal.
Is that info wrong?
I know that 90-93 is what most folks go with but I have the 94+ axles here.

This is why I don't believe in using unaltered 1990-1993 Integra axles on B-series swaps. Get some 1986-1989 Integra axles from a salvage yard. Pull off the inner joints from both these axles and your 1990-1993 Integra axles. And put the inner joints from your 1990-1993 Integra axles on the shafts/outer joints of the 1986-1989 Integra axles. And the fit will be perfect with stock Civic hub/knuckle assemblies. And no need to remove any dust seals.
Matt,
How much shorter are the 86-89 Hybrid B axles vs. the 90-93 Integra axles.
I'm thinking they might be better for lowered cars.

I have a real ef9. And had the same issue with both! Axles binding. Installed 86 to 89 integra axles problem is gone these axles are shorter
