all you would need is something to cover up the walls of your garage to protect from overspray, something to vent all the fumes,a good face mask not the cheap paper mask either,2 guns 1 for the primer and 1 for the base and clear coat, and a good compressor i would go with the craftsman 60 gal which would be a pretty good investment cause you can use it for anything else around the house or automotive heres a link to it http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr...19000

I painted my del sol over christmas break. The prep work is 80% of it. Here is a list of stuff i had to buy. The list excludes the paint gun and small every day stuff we had in the garage. I would Highly recomend finding some one who has done many cars before, but if you dont have any... pratice on some old sheet metal first. If you have any question about what the things are on the list let me know.

Also, sorry for the size but if i shrink it down it is even harder to read! I know its hard to read already. i can remove it if any one has a problem w/ the size.

We used a gravity gun, a big *** compressor...i would gues like 100+ gal. and a down draft sys. in a paint booth.

Like i said it pays to have good friends.
not sure how you would vent your garage. sorry.
Remember every thing has to be clean! and stay clean

I primered my front bumper in my garage. It blew nukin futs. I got lil debris of dog hair and dirt in the paint even though i tried sealing a box off in my garage with visquin and cleaned throughly. If i was u i would try to find a booth. Like every body said down draft is the way to go

to minimize dust.. you can wet the floor with water first..
by wetting the floor you also prevent paint from sticking to the floor..

This man speaks the truth. If you can hang tarps all over and wet them down it helps keep the dust down a lot.

This said, I'd wait a month to paint in a booth rather than paint in a garage.

Downdraft

Down draft sys. is a constant air moving sys. it brings in fresh filtered air and get rid of old paint and active dust. It is the best way to go.

And does so by pulling all of the air in the booth down. It keeps dust down too.

right, that's what I was thinking but wasn't sure if it was the same....

had a ghetto version hooked up in my buddy garage to paint an old chevy nova, took the windows out and replaced with box fans w/filters from the body shop he worked at, and set up a row of them along the bottom of the garage door as exhaust fans (holding the door up) we borrow big box fans from everyone we knew, a couple girls were pissed when they came back "indiglo blue" the blue color chevy was using on trailblazers and trucks the last couple of years....
it worked pretty good, only dirt that ended up in paint sanded and buffed out easily..

i have personally seen the box fan trick work, but you need to wet the floors, and try to use paper to mask off the walls. also you want to make sure the air supply your getting to your gun is clean and not filled with water and oil, you also want to make sure you get all traces of anything oily away from the ENTIRE painting area, clean that **** good. it will fisheye like a ****. I work in a body shop, so i dont have to worry about the ghetto tricks ( have a $150k spray booth with down draft and heat to bake it) ventilation and a clean airsource are key, this isn't like spraying your valve cover with spray paint, you can die from paint fumes, this stuff is nasttttty
