B18C and B18C5 differences
I was considering doing a B18C5 drop into my Civic, however I started wondering want the differences are between the C and the C5 engines. I know the obvious differences, like different compression, intake manifold, etc. However are there other little differences between the engines that would make the C5 ultimately a better choice. The reason I ask this is because before the engine would go into my car I would be going to town on it with a stroker kit; pistons, rods, valves, cams, the whole deal. So, because I would be doing all that stuff anyways is there any real benefit with spending the extra money on getting a B18C5. Or can I just get the cheaper B18C and get the same performance with a stroker kit as I would "stroking" a B18C5.

no, stupid. believe it or not many ITR parts are priced cheaper than GSR parts.
call your acura dealer and check.
and goto asia.vtec.net if you wanna know the actual difference.

I hope you're joking.
I'm saying 4grand more for the entire engine. You may be right about individeal parts for a ITR being cheaper, I don't know.

Yes, individual parts for the ITR are often cheaper than their GS-R counterparts (ranging from the obvious, like the intake manifold, to the puzzling, like the intake valves). Also, interestingly enough, a brand-new ITR shortblock from the factory costs the same as a GS-R shortblock.
The main difference in the B18C5 bottom end other than slightly better rods and higher compression is the crank. The ITR crank is stronger and better balanced than a B18C1 crank. But if you plan on doing a stroker kit it won't matter because the crank will be replaced, along with the pistons and rods.
In other words, if you plan on extensive internal mods, the ITR engine probably isn't worth the extra money. If you want to keep the bottom end mostly stock, changing only say, the pistons, the B18C5 is a stronger, better balanced bottom end.
