I was just cruising the worst roads in new jersey, Evesham road in Voorhees. and I hit a huge bump, (eibach lowering springs with tokico illumina adj at setting 5, now im told that i should be driving around on setting 5 because if i go any lower, i could do some damage. anyway, after i hit the bump, as i hit the throttle, the whole car vibrates, and it makes a major clunk sound. the tranny still shifted fine, and it didnt make the sound when i was in reverse. heres pics of the axles: the entire driver side axle is soaked in tranny fluid, as well as the bottom of the tranny/shift linkage, and the passenger side axle is dry as a bone.

were thinking, the driver side axle popped out, or something is cracked.
NEED RESPONSE ASAP!!!

does anyone know any common problems with axles under heavy slams?
axle pop?
broken seal?
me and my bro are gonna attempt to pull the axle tommmorow, maybe replace it, my friend works at advance auto, so i got a 35% discount plus core on a new axle. plus, im lookin at leaking tranny fluid... ughh does anyone have any experience with this ****?

that pic looks like your oil seal went where the axle meets the tranny. Very easy to fix
i wouldn't change the axle though. only if you know that the axle is bad. changing the axle is not going to fix the leaking. but the oil seal will

well, i hit that bump hard, and im thinkin the axle is fucked. now, how easy of a fix is it for the seal, do i have to pull the axle to do it? and if it is what u say, is that the reason why when i accelerate, my car vibrates? ive been reading about axle seals, and noones mentioned anything about it effecting their driving, just oil leaking.
yah you have to pull the axle out to replace the seal. about the car vibrating, do u hear a clciking sound when you turn if you do then the axle is bad. . it could also be any of your suspenision components too. you might have bent something. check your tie rods etc.

no, no clicking, there are no handling problems, it vibrates only when i hit the throttle, i know the axle clicking problem from my old crx, its not that, its only when i accelerate. im thinking its maybe bent- causing the vibration. i wanna just replace teh whole thing, but im very poor right now, and i need a cheap way out of this. if i buy the axle, does the seal come with it? if not, where do u get the seal, i know honda will give me the wrong one.

I changed out the axle with all the fluid on it, i have no experience with it, if it was broken or not, but we changed it out, didnt work, still vibrates when i gas it, so i just pulled the shorter axle, and inspected everything, doesnt look bad at all. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE THAT CAN HAPPEN FROM HITTING A BUMP??? IF THIS **** STILL IS MESSED UP AFTER I CHANGE THE OTHER AXLE, IM GONNA KILL MY CAR, THEN MYSELF. I BARELY HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO AFFORD GAS TO BUY THE 2ND AXLE.
Have you inspected your mounts? subframe? lower control arms?? somthing is out now, well besides the obvious(a bit rim) and its causing either your wheels or actual driveline(axles) to be vibrating, somthing is misaligned or out of balance, just look at everything.

stick a flat head in and pry it out
i know exactly what your problem is, because it happened to me 2 times this summer because i was using wrong axles, the problem is the diff....you probably fucked it up like i did, i had to replace my tranny and it was doing the same stuff your car is doing, if the axle gets shuved into the transmission with force it will knock the diff out of alighnment, and thats what that ticking noise is, does it do it when you turn? if it gets worse when you turn then thats probably the case
stick a new tranny on there and your good as new

well no,it's not like the axles are stuck in the tranny, I just cant get the hub/brake assembly to swing out far enough to pull them out. My friend who had just replaced his on his 91 hatch said that all you have to do is swing the brake assembly over and the axle pulls right out. It pulls out nearly all the way but about a centimeter of the axle is stuck in the hub because theres not enough room to pull it out. I'm probably just doing it wrong. If someone can help i'd appreciate it.thanks
