Default Brake Tech's Help a Guy Out!

About two months ago, I installed new Carbotech Bobcat pads and new rotors in the front. ('95 DX by the way) I didn't reinstall the shims, because the didn't fit the pads, nor did I use any anti-squeek goo. I've gathered from my searching that the shims aren't necessary. Now Im getting a squeek that sounded like the rotor was warped(only squeeking at one point: squeek...squeek...squeek) so i replaced it. That didn't help. Would getting new shims and retainer clips and making them fit, fix my problem. Thanx in advance.

did you clean the hub suface before you installed the new rotor? did you clean and lubricate the pad mounting surface on the caliper braket? shims should always be used to help prevent brake noise. anti-rattle/retaining clips should be cleaned and lubed(if u don't get new ones or they are bad) and the surface they are mounted on

did you make sure the caliper bracket moves freely? Take the 2 bolts off on the bracket and grease them up. Alot of times one side of the bracket gets seized.

I wouldn't recommend grease on caliper bolts or bracket bolts. The bolts(threads) should be cleaned and apply a little anti-seize or thread lock if you're going to torque to specs. Grease/lube should be used on the caliper slides/pins.It is a good idea to make shure the caliper and slides work properly before you take them apart.

Ok, so I just went and ordered new shims and retainer clip, and I also got some anti-squeek goo. The instructions are a bit vauge, so here is the question. Do I put this stuff on the back of the shim or do I sandwich it between the pad and the shim. thanx

Both, put a little on the ends of the backing where they contact the saddle too.

hey come up to auto zone tomorrow and i will show you how to put it on the caliper/pads

you put it on teh sliders and on both sides of the anti squeal pads
you are gonna have to get used to the pads squeaking
every one of hte r&d cars chads included has a brake squeal problem
it has something to do with how aggressive the pads are

btw this is daniel and i work at the remout road auto zone
