best mods for performance after Head, Int, Exh!
i just recently installed headers, intake and exhaust on my '97 gsr and i was wondering what are the next three best mods to bring out the best in my car. i wanna be able to hang or beat a z28 or t/a, please help, tired of domestics laughing and talking $hit
keep in mind that depending on how good of a driver you are and how well your car is running you should be able to hang with 40-50% of the stock z-28s on the roads (99+). at least this has been my personal experience with just IHE.
and mostly as far as where you want to go now depends on how much you want to spend. do you want to go FI at some point? if so SC, or turbo? depending on how far you want to take it should be the determining factor in what you do next.

You better be joking. Don't stock z28s run mid 13s? I raced a 97 when I still had my GSR. I had a better launch, but he flew by me when he hit 3rd..
get headwork with cams along with a skunk manifold and a test pipe. VAFC to tune. cam gears are good to tune in the cams. I don't think you'll be able to keep up with the new Z28's unless your running low 13's or better. They just have so much torque. Those LS1's engines kick ***.
my vote is for the cams. and yeah them z28s are fast. but if you really want to smoke them, go turbo and wave to them as your spanking them.

last weekend a mustang and a z28 pulled up to the stoplight next to each other, I beat the mustang and was doing well with the z28.
I have probably just been racing against really bad drivers, as I agree with equal drivers a high 14 second car shouldn't be able to beat a high 13. and deffinately not be able to keep up with them as well as I have.

actually i raced a new z28 a few months ago for about three city blocks and got up to about 65-70 when a cop pulled up, i was head to head to like 55, after that i started to pull away little by little but the cop showed up. and i've raced mustangs on the highway like three or four times, if i can get them to hang with me to like 125+, they won't be able to keep up because i think they redline after 135. because i just keep on going and they pull away. it sure must **** them off after a while of hearing my engine sound like a bunch of pissed off bees under the hood and them hearing their redline. ( ni ni ni ni ni)
Regardless of how much power you make you have to get it to the ground.
Do you have an LSD? Or even change your gear ratio's
Otherwise go cams and Forced Induction
yep cams are what separates the men from boys.

If you have the money.... a Turbo seperates the men from the boys!
Everyone has simple boltons, cams and gears.... someone in persuit of power goes that one extra step, again if you have the money...
Save your money, get a turbo setup and you'll be able to hang!!!

Mustang GTs top speed is about 150, Cobras about 10mph faster. I think you were racing a V6 Mustang and a V6 Camaro.
agreed... the stock stangs and camaro's (v8's) arent' somethign to be taken lightly... most 4cylinders with boltons can't even touch a power house torque machine like a stang/cobra or camaro v8 w/ out some sort of FI... from a roll maybe, but it better be freeway speeds... and then maybe....
sell the intake, sell the header and sell the exhaust...hopefully that'll give u about $700-$800....buy a turbo kit...get a 3in exhaust straight through exhaust...and get a 55 shot of nos....run the turbo on 7psi of boost...so shell out another $1500...you'll eat z28's for breakfast, lunch and dinner...
i agree seperating the boys from the men is TURBO and Nitrous

Maybe you should consider finding a 94-97 (years?) Mustang GT. They're only good for high 14s, I never lost to one..including my friend that ran 15.1 @ Sears.
Im going for the JRSC after I/H/E!!!!!
good luck either way you go...
(we are turbo biased here.. sorry)
Your gonna need more than that... but it will help... what your after is mad power and some mad skilz to control it... JRSC is harder to upgrade than a turbo setup and just as dangerous... and the turbo is, depending on the deal, only a little bit more...

the SC is still relatively new for the honda community, as compaired with the turbo. I think once an intercooler that will work with the JRSC is found the SC will go balistic. right now the highest anyone is willing to go boost wise on a jrsc is 12psi and that is with some serious engine management. 14psi is the limit with a roots style blower without an intercooler, you are looking at really high intake temps, and a very high chance of detonation.
at this point in time if you want to go over 8psi of boost, go with a turbo they will be more reliable under high boost. but if you are going with stock 5psi, or up to 8psi why not go SC? you have no lag, instant torque, it is great for streeting, stop light to stop light.
I guess the question at that point is, do you trust yourself not to grab that boost controller and push it up over the limits of the engine (you don't have it that easy with a SC, you have to chance pullies and stuff to increase boost). and do you like the sound of a turbo spooling up or the sound of a huge drill.
oh and as to mustangs and z28s, vs my car... unless the mustang has a snake on the side they pose no threat unless they have done some mods or the driver is better than me. for the z28? every one I have pulled up next to I fully expect to be trounced, I have seen the numbers, I have ridden in plenty, and I full well know that if drivers are as good as me I am toast, but I will still race them and I have won my fair share of races vs z28s.
I give respect where respect is due, but that doesn't change the fact that I have raced and beaten my fair share of these respected cars. no I probably don't give mustangs enough respect, but damnit I worked on the pieces of **** for 2 1/2 years I will not respect a piece of **** with a decent engine in it. that is just MHO though
Agreed, if you really want to make power get a turbo, or if you choose to stay NA, Get some headwork, portflow, dpr... Then cams, toda b's, jun, crower... Up your compression to 11.3.1 or so. Then strap your butt to a dyno. Power is not cheap either way, but if power is what you want, then be prepared to pay. Also seen the comment on lsd and a new clutch, highly recommended so you can get it to the wheels.
Get the N.O.S. Plate system for the GSR. Costs 500 bucks and is one of the safest kits out. Keep at at 75 shot and you will hit like 13.7s on street tires.
