Default Another short shifter vs. exhaust question, but this one's legit

Ok, so I just recently got my crx up and running. I installed a B&M short shifter while there was no exhaust, then drove it over to a muffler shop and had a cat-back system installed. I then put about 75 miles on it with no issues. But the B&M shifter is straight (compared to the slightly bent stock one), so I took it out and had it bent at a local shop. I put it back in tonight, and now it hits the exhaust pipe. Pretty bad, too. So can anyone think of what I screwed up this time around that would make it hit? The bend is above the pivot point and should have no bearing on how it's installed. Thanks.

It sounds liek when they bent it that it may have tweeked the bottom end of it or do o the new curve up top, it forces the bottom oever when your shifting. Also, depending on the size of piping you have on that cat back, it could be bunching up on your shifter if your motor moves around from shoty motor mounts...if you wanted a curved short shifter why not buy it that way....they are made the way they are for a reason you know...hth

I put a cheap short shifter in my rex with stock exhaust and the linkage hit in 5th and reverse so I cut about 1-1.5 inches off the linkage (the part that just hangs out on the end) and no more problems. Thank you Sawzall!

Here's what you need:

I bought one from these guys and it's way better than ebay's short shifters. Don't buy one that looks like this:

My short shifter hit my thermal exhaust. So I checked out the linkage and found that the shifter was hitting an extended part of the linkage and I just cut if off like the other guy did. That was 2 years ago and I haven't had a problem to this day. When you bent the shifter it may have tweaked the bottom so it now hits. Take a look under the car and see if you can modify the linkage so it doesn't hit.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I put the damn thing back together wrong. It's pretty embarassing, so I don't want to go into details. But everything works good now.

Hey i just put my shifter in and it hit my exhaust. So i cut it with a sawsall until it didnt. Have any one else done this and had problems? I am still so surprised how much it reduced the throw. Now i have to be faster with the footwork to match the shifts.

Why not? I bought a cheap eBay shortshifter and it works great, it was only 14.99. Shift throws are short, its a strong shifter, and best of all, it works.

You are right. I have one my self and its worked great for over a year now. Also when I was at Summit I noticed they had like 5 different brands laying out and the DC sports one looks exactly identical so..

I definitely felt a major difference between the Evasive shifter and the Ebay shifter. More comfortable shifting and it seemed a bit quicker.

I think not. I think you know nothing really. It's ok though. You're probably in your 5th period class right now, typing away on the internet when you should be studying your punctuation.
