Default buying used turbo(t3).exhaust housing cracks........

looking on ebay for turbo and a lot of them say that garret turbo exhaust housings are known for small hairline cracks.is this normal?should i stay away from this?info please!

anyone with info on this? i wouldn't think that any kinda cracks would be good.a hairline crack is just the beginning of something larger right?

As long as its a small hairline crack I dont think it would cause any problems. Its something that just happens when air that hot is forced through something like that at such high volocities.

yeah, i understand.i just didn't know if there was a certain life span of an exhaust housing, when it starts to deteriate(sp?). i guess that also depends how hard it was used right?

If I was buying a turbo (which I'm not) I would probably not want to purchase something prone to cracks. There are a lot of choices.

I guess that didn't help much.....

most standard T3 internally gated turbine housings crack at the WG exit.

Its pretty common, and you wont have too severe side effects unless the WG hole is severely cracked, then you will have retarded boost response.
