I need to know what guage wire to use to extend the wire so i can hide my switches. also i want to make sure its the green and yellow wire that is the power wire for the fuel pump...thanks all

is 18ga okay..? i have that in my garage..or over time it will fry?

 

you should try to use the same gauge wire. 14 or 16 should be fine, but i'd be a little skeptical about 18.

 

would the 18 ga affect performance..i know a few people that have used it and said it could be the reason for performance being affected..when they gas..it takes a sec sometimes before the car accelerates..and is it normal that your car cranks a little bit before it starts up afterthe switch has been enabled for a few days

 

what do you guys think? is it better to use a switch or relay?

just don't use the 18 gauge wire. wire is cheap anyway so just buy the 14 or 16 gauge wire. also, regardless if you have the switch or not, turn the key to the "on" position and wait for the fuel pump to engage or whatever. it's normal for it to crank a little if you just turn the key all the way to start the car.

 

Use 14 Gauge.

you need to start looking a little harder. the second post of this thread was by me with the link on how to do it.
"there is a pair of wires coming out of the center one yellow one and one black wrapped in that ribbed balck plastic tubing
4- the yellow is the positive and the black is negatvie- cut one of them your preference."

 

A better and safer thing to do is run a switch to the main relay. You want to interrupt the ground wire that activates the electromagnet for the relay. It is the thin black wire going into the main relay. If it shorts out on the chassis then it is no biggie. Also, since you are interrupting the electromagnet, it is a low current draw and the switch will last longer. If you short out the power wire for the fuel pump you may have a fire. Also, the switch will probably not last as long either with the high current going through it. The switch to the main relay will not only kill the fuel pump but also the other systems. You cannot run a switch on the ground side of the fuel pump because it has two grounds; one self ground and one regular ground.

could you possibly elaborate on how to hook this up exactly. this sounds very interesting, and i think it's the route i'd like to take with my fuel pump kill switch.
