EClIPSE???
hey i was down checking out a new head unit for my teg, i was originally llookin at the v-drive alpine, when my salesmen started showin me a eclipse, and sayin how it was beter... blah blah blah.. have u guys ever heard of eclipse?? is it good? would i be more happy with the alpine or eclipse??? also i dont plan on running subs at moment,, just sumthing to pound the factory speakers,, then in time upgrade the speakers
Eclipse makes a has been making great head units for quite some time, now. But, it's been my personal experience that they seem to brake more often than other brands. I'd still go with your first instinct and get the Alpine -- and I'm not just saying that because I'm an Alpine fan.
personally, I think that it is a feature question. I'm not sure about the 2004 lineup for eclipse, but weigh the need of MP3 and a detachable face.
Generally, Eclipse head's do not have those features, at least the 8443 and 8053 didn't. From a SQ standpoint, I think that Eclipse has most everyone beat at a matching price point. Their singal processing in the above two heads is also extrememly impressive.
And this is coming from someone wiht an Alpine DVA-7996!!

thanks., the model of eclipse i was lookin at was the cd3434, and the alpine was a 9813 or the 9815.. from sounds of it eclipse makes sum good stuff.. but i think i am gonna go alpine just cause i know they pound, and for powering factory speakers without amp 4x60 sounds better then 4x50.. but both look hot

neither would hit those numbers unless it was hit by lightning....
regardless, I don't think you can go wrong...enjoy.

im willing to put up the alpine ur friend has against an eclipse in the same price range. i can gaurantee that the eclipse will sound cleaner and better. when i say better, i mean a crispier detail, less distortion, and more dynamic range over the alpine.
I own the Eclipse3434, which is an awesome deck. I had an older Alpine deck before (CDE series, it's been discontinued I believe).
I love the deck, and the sound was a tremendous increase from the aged Alpine.
The only setback I can see is the lack of a removable faceplate (although with online stores that sell faceplates I guess that wasn't as secure as I previously though..). It does have a 1 year theft warranty from Eclipse, along with a fancy ESN feature.
The 3434, 5444, and the new 8 series all have MP3 playback as well.

Eclipse products are great, never had any problems with them. I've had a bunch of their top of the line units as well as some lower level units and their DVD/LCD Screen Units, All Good stuff
For the guy who mentioned detachable faces I'm not worried with my Eclipse Unit since they cover the replacement if its stolen.

Prior to the sleeving days I ran a car audio shop. We carried both Eclipse and Alpine. We used Eclipse in every show car we built. Eclipse are exceptionally clean sounding decks and come with a 3 year warranty. Besides their new look Eclipse would be the way to go for better quality.
Eclipses at their price range are by far the SQ winner. They might not have as many features or fancy screens as alot of other brands, but they are good at what they are supposed to be good at, Producing a crisp, clear sound.
And actually I just recently got back from the Eclipse Training and many of their new Products have some pretty cool features on them. Especially the new units with memory stick features.

I have a eclipse 5443 in my winter beater, it's over three years old and working on it's 4th birthday and to this day it has excellent sound quality and has never needed to go to the repair clinic
I replaced it with an Alpine in my preferred honda only because I was no longer working at a store that sold eclipse... so I went to the old fallback of an Alpine, It's the 9815... and it is exceptional I've been really happy with it, but if my Eclipse would play MP3's then I would've never taken it out....
Alpine only has a 1 year warranty, Eclipse offers a 3 yr, which one do you think has more faith in it's product?--- not trying to create an arguement, just a thought

The Good Ol WLS Rating eh?..
Agreed.. I am in the industry and have seen many more Alpine units go down that Eclipse units. Plus if anything does happen it does have a 3 Year Warranty also. But you do need to weight the Detach face and the MP3 function.. If either of these 2 options are not a big deal for you then go with the Eclipse. And I sell Both.. And in both of my cars are Eclipse Units.

Eclipse is high line of Fujistu Ten. They have around in the US since the mid 80s. I prefer Eclipse to Alpine. I have used both through the years and every Eclipse(4) I have had has broken. I still use them for non sq systems. The buttons on the current Eclipses are alot smaller than the Alpines and presents problems for some people. Generally, Eclipse sq is better than Alpine but there is higher quaility out there.

The new units don't need the E-COM to be hooked up to play MP3's. They Play MP3's right out the box.
