is 150 WHP poss with a d16z6? what do i need?
i just got a z6 motor cheap./ i want at least 150 WHP , i heard that i shound concentrate on building up the head more than the block but is this true? what can i do to acheive that number without turbo or nitrous? its going into my crx SI . where can i get good prices on parts?
my friend got 164whp and 169tq out of an HX motor. and people get 200-210whp with stock sohc vtec motor's it just takes alil bit of boost and some proper tunning. now if you want to go full build im sure you can get well over 300whp with a sohcvtec turbo setup there are a few members on here that have it done
he said without boosting or nitrous...you can do this but it will cost a pretty penny. you wanna get parts look at http://www.jdmhondaparts.com
oo well its possible dunno much more then that, my personal opinion is boost the bitch SOHC parts are cheap, if you brake something you can get a whole new motor for under 500 bucks minus the tranny
I'm not a SOHC guy, but I'd imagine you'd need an aggressive cam w/ valvetrain and more compression; with the bolt ons. Maybe mild headwork?
my idea was to just leave the block alone but get the head ported and poilished and get a cam and some valve train stuff.. think its poss without building the block up? also what is a place that has good prices for valve train stuff? i dont care what brand as long as it works.

not really...
not really...
well i was thinkin about it and maybe your right...you "might" be able to get 150 whp with the work you described above. I would do upgraded pistons, rings, rods, bearings, valves, retainers, springs, bullfrog cam, AEM cam gear, water pump, oil pump...basiclly FULLY BUILD THE MOTOR...then if your bored one day...boost it and boost it HARD
well you could definetely get 150 flywheel! without too much fuss
good cam,
thinner headgasket,
GOOD i/h/e(and hiflocat)
insulating IM gasket
maybe a bit of port'npolish(more polish than port tho).
and some tuning.
but yeah, unless you completely build the motor, and do it really well, you wont get 150 whp

i know at least a couple people who make over 150 whp with single cam motors. one of them runs an A6. you can do it much cheaper if you use honda parts from other engines, say PM7 pistons, LS rods. for 150whp you wont put too much strain on the internals, but i would recommend valvetrain upgrades such as a Web Cams regrind or a Crower cam(they have been known to give quite a potent punch), upgraded valve springs, new FACTORY bearings.
the oil pump should be fine to upwards of 250whp, water pump should be replaced anyway, and you might want to look into Totalseal gapless piston rings too for that little bit of extra kick.
*edit* Gude makes decent cams, but id leave them to the B series stuff.

150 whp is quite possible with mostly what ive read, upped comp and an agressive cam, inlcuding the tuning and all the other little stuff....its been done

just some examples
builthatch made 162 whp @ 8200rpm with a built y8 with zc pistons.
moose untuned, stock ecu with a restrictive cam is in the 140's.tunning cam and itbs should really free up some power.
