Hello Honda Enthusiasts
Dear Honda Fans-
Honda of America has been watching the amount of interest in the R versions of Honda cars around the World Wide Web and in sanctioned racing environments. Honda-Tech especially has an overwhelming fan base of the R model.
With the recent downward trend of sales of the Civic Si, we have decided to spice up our offerings with the Introduction of the Civic Type R and Rsx Type R for the US marketplace. The Civic Type R will feature a 2.0l 200hp I-VTEC Engine and the RSX Type R will carry over its foreign market powerplant a 2.0l 220hp I-VTEC Engine.
The major concerns seem to be that the cars will be "watered down". This will not be the case. Recaro seats, brembo brakes, and appearance aero packages will be retained, but a US specfication front bumper will be used for the RSX Type R. We look forward to hearing feedback and official press releases will follow via Honda.com, and major publications such as Car and Driver, Motor Trend and Road and Track.
Happy and safe driving to all our fans and customers and we'll see you on the road!

Harvey,
Great to hear the good news. When can we expect the R's to be available, 6 months or less? I knew this day was coming and I was trying to tell others but they all shot us believers down. Good thing I am #3 on a dealer's list!

It's sold as the RSX in America.
Therefore, the Type R version of the car will be called the RSX Type R.
What's so hard to understand?

No worries, even if you got a type R, another one will come out that is better down the road eventually....would you once again wish you had waited?
Enjoy what you have!
Don't regret something you did, regret something you didnt do.
As for the original message, Honda consistently refers to "i-VTEC", never "I-VTEC", and titles like "Head of Marketing" are pretty rare (Director of Marketing is the common name for this position)
...so I call April Fools too. Nice try.

I can verify, he isn't. Numerous reasons have been pointed out why this is a fake. I work at the corporate offices in Torrance, and the one thing that tipped me off more than anything was that we don't refer to Honda as "Honda Corporate of America". Typically its American Honda Motors, Inc. or AHM.

I agree that this is a bogus posting. I read in Motor Trend about a year ago that they weren't bringing the Type-R to the US. Basically because they don't see a big enough demand here (obviously not true) and because of emissions making it too expensive. Besides the Type-S has the same potential as the Type-R, its just more work to get there.
