Default dampener question

Will runing on a stiffer setting on the street shorten the life of the dampener when compared to running on a "lighter" setting?

I'd venture to say that it also depends on the stiffness of the spring used.
If the dampener is doing all the work then it might wear more quickly, if a stiff spring and stiff damper settings are used then I'd think it's working like it's supposed to and wear shouldn't be as much of an issue.

it's on the Tein type FLEX.. I think springs are 8-6? or 8-4 or something liek that.. so no the springs are not that stiff but I'm not setting the dampener that stiff just 6 in the front adn 8 in the back

I'm getting used to my Lowdowns and have been thinking along similar lines lately.
Not as much wrt wear, but just trying to select some appropriate settings for street use.
The problem seems to be that I might be bottoming out the fronts, or I need to add some more air to the tires (springs something like 350#/7K+ in front).
I'll be playing with the settings some more (only 1-5 on the Lowdowns), probably up the setting in the fronts some more.

I miss my Buddy Clubs, even with the 12K Front/14K Rear spring rates.

so u dun think it'll lower the lifetime much by running it slightly stiffer? the road here can suck but i dun mind the stiffness and it keeps me awake lol

I'm in the same position, i have spoon coilovers with a straight spring (8front/6rear) and as with the lowdowns only have 5 settings, i have them set at 1 on front and back as our roads are crap and i found that even setting the fronts on 2 was too hard, i'm slightly worried that the shocks will wear out quickly like this and have considered raising the whole car 0.5-0.75inches (it rides just a few mil above the tyres at the moment) to give the shock more travel and not have it working as hard but i dont know if this will make a whole lot of difference.....

Just my pet peeve.... they are not dampeners, they are dampers. They have nothing to do with water.

Part of being knowledgeable about a topic is the ability to articulate your thoughts and opinions clearly using the accepted vocabulary and semantics of the field. I was just trying to point out your simple mistake in the name of more precise communication.
