Some schools of thought believe that if you disable the power doorlock switches, you are protected from the coat hanger trick.
i had tried having the doorlock switches disabled for a while but it became apparent that its more inconvenient than anything else.
Has anyone imagined the situation when youre stopped at a red light or stop sign and your doors are unlocked, what could stop a guy who opens a door, pulls a knife on you and forces you out of the car? ever hear of "carjacking"...
Personally, if you have bad kharma... bad things will happen with or without the doorlock switches. You read all these threads about autolocks, clubs, dual alarms, etc.... and their car still gets stolen. Has anyone stopped to think about what gives here...?

IMHO the door lock trick only works if you actually get the RS door bezels, which don't even have the switch. If you just disable them but still have the switch, theives aren't going to know that they are disabled and will still try the coat hanger trick. If they see that there are no switches at all they might think twice. The idea here is deterrent.
I plan on doing this with my car, but I will wire up a new rocker switch on the center console so that I can still operate the power locks.

The idea isn't to disable power locks, just to remove (and usually relocate) the power lock switches so they're not so easily manipulated with a coat hangar. Most people seem to put new switches in the center console. Also, with keyless entry systems, you don't need to use the switches much anyway: most systems automatically lock the doors after you get in, and unlock them when you turn off the car. Driving around with unlocked doors is pretty stupid, IMO.

Sure, he will never think that is glass in front of him and that he could just break it. I sure hope a thief doens't read this and get the ingenious idea to break the window though, I hate to help the bad guys.
There's only so much you can do, but in the end there is glass there and if he wants your car he can get in it.
That's what insurance is for.

I shaved my power lock tabs so there was nothing to hook onto. My car was still broken into. The irony of it all was I shaved them the day BEFORE it happened in hopes to prevent theft... futile. The theif pulled the window back and prob flipped the door lock itself with a hook. The best way i see it is to disable the power door locks AND fill up the gap next to the lock so there is No way a hook can get in there. hth
Question for your guys. I am new here and need some help. I have a 97 Civic EX Coupe. How do you disable the power locks? The reason I ask is because all of a sudden my power locks do not work along with the power windows. When I use the key fob, the interior dome light comes on but the doors do not unlock so I have to use the key. The windows on either side do not go up or down. I checked the fuses but could not find anything. Any advice would be appreciated.
thanks in advance
