need help for n/a prelude. idling and cel...
Having some troubles with a friend's n/a lude here. If anyone can offer suggestions, advice, or wisdom regarding this, it would greatly be appreciated. Here goes:
"Ive had a problem plaguing me ever since my crower cam install. When I initially put the cams into my car, it was just the cams, cam gears and a vafc. After 2500 miles of driving, my car began to start up with a very rough idle, like the car was misfiring with the engine vibrating very badly. I had the car towed to the shop, and probably after a couple days of just sitting there, the problem disappeared. After putting in the crower valvetrain, again after a couple thousand miles, same problem occurred, and again after probably 3 days of just sitting at the shop, the problem disappeared. It's doing the same thing again and I need to figure out what is happening and how to prevent it from happening again.
Symptoms:
-Rough idle; car feels like it is misfiring due to harsh vibrations.
-From a cold start, the car does seem to warm up properly with the rough idle, gradually decreasing from ~1300 RPMs to about 700 RPMs when warm, fluctuating a bit tho between 550 to 800 RPMs.
-If I do try to gas the car from park at idle, the car stalls out.
-After about 30 seconds after start up, I get a flashing CEL light, but when I try to check for any CEL codes, the CEL light just stays on (unless it staying on means something bad), does not flash at all.
Modifications:
Note: Car is 2000 Prelude sportshift
AEM cold air intake, Magnacore sparkplug wires, Crower stage 2 cams w/ non stock idle lobes, Crower valvetrain: valve springs, retainers, S.S. valves, Skunk2 cam gears, Spoon thin headgasket, Apex-I Vafc II
The car has been dyno tuned with 1-degree intake cam advance
The cam gears do seem to be aligned, ive checked the spark plug wires and they seem okay. From the past encounters from this problem my shop had checked my spark plugs seemed to be in fair condition. Im not sure what to check or what to do next. If anybody could provide me with any information or any enlightenment to this situation it would be very greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance."
