Default Nikon Cool Pix 4300

I just got a new camera. This is my first decent diggy cam. Does anyone have one of these and have any tips. Does it take nice car pics etc. Also should I invest in a tripod? Will one make a big difference?

tripod will definitely work... you'll notice cleaner pics

really check out the manual, that thing will explain like no other

tripod. YES!
an absolute must when taking night pics. or any pics with long shutter speeds...

I have this same camera and it took me a while to figure out what I have learned.

-Only for Manual Mode-

Adjust Shutter Speed:
Hold furthest left button (under screen) and hit Left/Right in directional pad.

Adjust Aperature:
Hold furthest left button (under sceen) and hit Up/Down in directional pad. However, when zoomed all the way out, you'll only get F2.4 and F7.6. If you want to increase the number, you can zoom in. The more you zoom, the longer the aperature speed.

Just about everything else you can play with. It has a bunch of menu options, just take several pics of the same thing in the same lighting while changing options (white balance, focus, etc) and you'll see the differences (if they exist). Enjoy the cam, I do!

I use to work for a digital cam shop, so I had all the info of all the models crammed down my throat. Your camera is nice, but if your a beginner I'd say it was a bad choice. It has a lot of options (many shooting modes) that most people never use. When you get use to it you will love it, pretty much all Nikons come with amazing lenses which is the most imporant and underlooked thing in a digi cam. As far as a tripod it all depends. I know when I'm at a car show I don't want to bother hauling a tripod around, it's all up to you. Look around online, there's lots of good tutorial sites

I used to have a Sony Mavica (where you put the flooppy disk in) and it sucked once you got the pictures to the computer. I have herd that the Nikon is kinda complicated, but will take some good quality pics. I have been looking around online and have found some good info. Can anyone post pics that they took with the 4300?

He asked for pics, I gave him some pics... I didn't mean to 'threadjack' anything.
Are my pics that bad that I should use their tips? I did get some tips already, but are they THAT bad??

Im gonna love this thing. What settings did you use for some of those. I will mostly be taking pics of cars out in the sun at 1st. Did you use one of the scene things or auto or manuel?
