CRX Rear Cage
Has anyone seen a rear roll cage for a rex. I would like something that is going to protect my kid 100% if I put him in the backseat. I could fabricate this myself, I am just wondering if anyone has a picture or have they heard of this. I dont want my rex to crush like a can if some moron doesnt know how to drive. I dont want a full cage, just one that maybe mounts on the rear strut towers or something of that sort.

I would never put a kid in the back of a CRX. Do you mean a baby in a car seat or a small child? If it's the small child, NEVER do any thing of the sort. What ever cage you put back there would be bad because the cild would hit the cage in an accident.
There are a few cages out there that bolt right into your rex, but none of them are intended for use with people in the back!

I dont really want a cage, more of a support, nothing that would go higher that the rear strut towers, and no farther foward than the back of back of the rear seat. My first idea would be a strut tower brace with bars angled to meet the floor at the very back of the car, then support bars coming off those running up to a support on the floor behind the back seat.

yea the rear of a crx really isnt meant for ANYBODY... even with jdm seats its still not meant for people.... you should really consider a different car to transport your child

They weren't safe enough to pass US safety regulations - and that was back in the 1980s.
a) Having someone sit in the "back" of a CRX is a bad idea, back seat or not. I would never trust my dog's life to that back seat, let alone my own child if I had one . . . have you ever seen pictures of a rear-ended CRX?
b) Having someone sit in the back of a car with a roll bar is a bad idea - especially if there is no SFI padding, no shoulder belts, and that person is not wearing a helmet.

I am not wanting a roll bar, just bars that strengthen the back end of the car. There would be nothing anywhere in front of the back seat. All the bars would be in the trunk/hatch area. This is not a street racing vehicle, it is not a drag vehicle, it is strictly daily driving. No I have never seen a crx that has been rear-ended, but that is my point exactly, to keep the rear end from crushing. There has to be a reason that the car takes severe rear end damage, the safety ratings for the crx are good for driver and passenger. If the car has a weakness, it can be fixed.
Does anyone have any pics of a rear-ended rex. I would like to know where it collapses.

the whole rear end of the CRX is a crumple zone...when rear ended the bumper usually ends up right behind the front seats...its a mess, I think I can find a picture or 2 to show this

Twisted metal means that a certain amount of force was used up just doing the twisting. It's safer than making the rear "un-twistable" since that force has to go somewhere. If you're sitting in the driver's seat and you get rear ended like that you're in pretty good shape (side impact is another story). Either way, I wouldn't put anything I cared about in the rear of the CRX.
