Pros: quicker revmatching, more power to the wheels in the first few gears.
Cons: nothing

There's your answer. There are no cons for doing this modification except for money spent.

the only con i have is that it makes the car shutter a bit here and there when you accelerate from a stop in first....

is this just me or what?

I'm speaking as a Comptech Aluminum flywheel owner. This is one of the best modifications to the car I've done in my opinion. The flywheel frees up power. The car is more lively and more fun to drive than with a stock flywheel.

when people stop associating the aluminum quality of soda cans to flywheels.

do you have aftermarket clutch? Thats what that sounds like to me.
I hate aftermarket clutches for that reason,...but mainly I have bad luck w/ Throw-out bearring rattles..probably clutch or Installer's fault?? Still not 100% on that one.

<-----JDM final drive & ACT prolite sittin next to me,going in in a few mths!

c'mon now, can anything ever really have zero negative effect.
some people don't like their revs to drop so fast, like drag racers staying in vtec through a shift. and with the really light ones, it becomes a bit easier to stall your car/ harder to inch forward at a stop light/staging. that said, the pros still out weigh the cons, and these aren't an issue for most people who want a lighter flywheel.

jup

going from a ~41# rotating mass to a ~30# mass in the Volvo was quite noticeable.

it don't hurt, but i question if it really makes enough difference.. itr flywheel is already light, so another 5-7lbs is much noticable.. yet, it don't really change anything.. your car is just as slow or fast before/after.. on top of that, it could cause problems with starter.. after having some experience first hand, i wouldn't change anything other than stronger pressure plate on stock clutch assembly.

what about torque loss if the flywheel is too light?

808dc2 has a very good point.I put a porlite flywheel and lost 11ft of torque on my turbo b18c1.It's more noticible in a turbo car than a allmotor car

lol

How can you loose engine power (torque) by making the flywheel lighter?
