Ignited Push Button Ignition Write-Up... Here ya go...
Well, I installed mine (in my 98 Prelude) a few weeks ago and someone asked me to write up how I did it... here we go...
First you need to pick up about 8 feet of stranded 12 gauge wire and 8 feet of stranded 18 gauge wire (and a female spade terminal [aka disconnect] crimp)... this is more than enough but wire is like 20 cents a foot and its nice to have more than enough then barely enough and have to pull it and pray nothing rips out blah blah blah... you get it...
Now, I have my push button rigged up to crank only when the key is in "on" and the immobilizer is off... if you want to make it turn on w/o the key I will tell you how to do that too...
Always begin by removing your positive (+) battery lead for your safety, unless you feel confident in your ability to withstand electric shock, heh...
After you find a place to mount your button, screw in the wires to each terminal on the back of the button assembly and loosely assemble the whole thing...
now connect the wires...
-"X1" 18 g wire to a 12v source that comes on when you want the light on (I crimped a female spade connector to this wire and pushed it onto one of the two open spade terminals in the under dash fuse box [the open terminals are in the middle of the fuse box in little recessed holes, you will find em]... I forget which is which, but one is on when the lights are on and the other is when the key is turned on... just test them both... its easy...)
-"X2" 18 g wire to a good ground... for this i loosened one of the bolts that connects the steering collumn to the firewall, wrapped the wire around it, and tightened the bolt back up...
-"-3" 12 g wire... and "-4" 12 g wire... these are the ignition wires... 3 goes to the starter wire and 4 goes to a 12v power source when ignition is on... to do this in hondas is extremely easy... (or at least in 5th gen preludes, but I think most all hondas are the same...) Below the steering wheel, there is a piece of trim... remove it and poke around through the wires under there... You should find a large 3 pin harness with only two wires in it (the middle pin is empty)... one wire is white and the other is black/white... (these wires are pretty beefy like 10 g I believe) these are the "starter" and "direct battery power when ignition is on" wires... so, now, If you want it to work only when your key is "on", splice 3 and 4 into these two wire (order does not matter), but if you wanna live dangerously, cut these wires and directly crimp 3 and 4 to the wires, this way you just press the button and the car starts... now there is a problem, you have to remove any immobilizer type security sytem that is in the car and figure out a way to unlock the steering collumn w/o the key or remove the collumn lock altogether... heh, good lucky if you decide thats what you wanna do...
After it is hooked up recheck all connections, replace the battery lead, and test it to see if it works... If it doesnt... That sucks, good luck troubleshooting... If it does, Congratulations... now tighten the button assembly down in place and put everything (like trim and stuff) back the way it was...
Good Job!
P.S. - I still havent figured out how to post pics, but Ill try and maybee someone can help here...
Ok, heres the pics... I hope I do this right...

This is where I mounted my button along with my soon to be NOS switch and other ****...

This is the 3 pin harness under the steering collumn...

up close...

now here is the under dash fuse box and the slot closest is the one that comes on when lights are on (red arrow in pic)...

close with flash... heh...

and finnaly close up with out flash...

I hope this helps everyone thats trying to do this out... if you need more/better pics I can do em latter, just ask (that goes for other questions too, heh...) ... Good luck with it guys...
BTW... does the dash look clean? lol... I like it... Ill ad a pic of my tach latter...

different strokes for different folks, some people think body kits are lame cause you already have bumpers, to each his own.
good job on the write im gona add it to the FAQ/ how to in the eg civic forum

alright, you had this ALMOST right... but you need to leave off everything after the first ".jpg" ie: ".orig.jpg" (bold underlined part)
BTW: I changed the words inside the brackets so they would show up, you had them right

Very nice writeup
Question: Why?
is it that much harder to turn your just alittle more?
i understand on the s2000 and DC5 type-r that you have to press the start button, because there's no start switch on the ignition..

I like how the car will only start with the key in the "on" position, immobilizer off and the push of the button.
The only thing i would have done differently is the placement of the switch. I would have hidden the switch so that theives would have a harder time trying to figure out the starting sequence. O, if i was really paranoid, i would have added a fuel cut ecu cut and starter cut. But thats just me.
Good write up

Good write up
I think the wires are the same...
you are all quite welcome and thank you for the props!
also, how to hotwire a car 101... i should write up part 112... how to turn off steering collumn/wheel lock etc... lol
Alright guys... I need to go to bed... Take it easy!

also, nenity7ex... if it isnt the same... just poke around for a pair of large wires that are bundled together... then cut a little insulation and test them with a multimeter... have fun lookin man!
o yeah, the key still turns the car on 2... just to clarify for DA6toDC2...

anyone ever get tired of their push button start?
i've had mine nearly 3 years or more, and it can be tedious at times
only thing it's cool for is showing off, which i don't even like to do

I got a flip switch on mine. My ignition went out in my civic and I was not about to pay 300$ for a new one. So I ran a hard wire from the starter to the switch. I'll I have to do is turn the key on and the lip the switch and then put it back down.
