I was just wondering if this is really needed for someone who goes to the track occasionally? My HP goals are around 315-330whp daily and very close if not 400+ whp on race gas when I go to the track.
Do you have to take off a B series tranny to install, or is this a bolt on to the outside of the transmission case? Sorry for the noob questions, I've only seen a couple of posts about this.
Thanks
P.S. Could this be compared to a block grille (i.e. an extra insurance policy, or something along those lines?)

it does nothing to protect your tranny, basically it just keeps the peices from flying through the hood if the clutch explodes. Not needed IMO for 400whp

Its not really needed. its just a safety thing if the flywheel or clutch shatters. if you go 11.99 or quicker. they will toss you if they look at your car and you dont have all the safety stuff.
I like how people say "it's just a safety thing."
A seatbelt is just a safety thing too, so you don't really need that, right?
A guy I know had his flywheel explode. It blew a bunch of holes in his hood, and even destroyed his sunroof.
Flying pieces of metal shooting through your head WILL kill you.
If you're making more than 400 horsepower, you may want to consider one. Especially if you are using a stock flywheel.

what makes a stock flywheel more prone to shatter in your opinion?
like i said , its not needed, but is nice to have for piece of mind . like i said if you plan on going 11.99 or quicker you must have one.

So save some $! Yah, I would get one if I were you. Its gonna be like your grandad in WWII all over again and the shrapnel cuts through your flesh and destroys the ability to see, when your eyeballs get cutout of your skull.

I would for you and mostly your passengers sake. If it comes apart there really isnt much that'll stop that sucker from coming through the fire wall and taking feet and other extremites off. Better safe than sorry.

That is the reason for a scatter shield.. I know a guy at the track with no leg because the flywheel came through the firewall..

To pass tech at sanctioned events <11.99 you need SFI aprroved scatter shield, flywheel, clutch(cage, harness, etc.). Judging by pictures it looks as if you can install it with engine/trans in vehicle, may be wrong though......good luck

thanks guys, I think I'm going to do it just incase. Hopefully it won't interfear with my intake piping by the compressor housing.
Anyone have pics of this with a inline pro manifold and an SC61

yes you can install it with the engine and trans in the car, but its a bitch . i had to take off the charge pipes and took out the thermostat to get the back part bolted it . took some time.

I'm honestly not sure exactly what it is. What I do know is that I've never seen an aftermarket one blow up, and I have seen several stockers do it. I assume it as to do with manufacturing and such.

That doesn't have anything to do with anything. I'm more worried about shrapnel through my *******
FYI stock flys are cast.

there are a few ricer companies that make em. I believe AC autoechnik makes em. dunno if they ar NHRA certified tho. flying metal hurts. imagine a 9000 RPM hunk of steel punching through your transmission, firewall, then you then the roof and keeps on going for a 100 feet.
yah its dangerous.
